Seriously? It is like night and day.
This place used to be known as "The smartest place on the internet", and it was mainly libertarian and tech focused. Debates happened a lot, but it was a lot more scholastic, and polite. Redditiquette was followed, and downvoting someone based on opinion was seen as having a rage-quit moment. Downvotes were generally used when someone made a horrible leap in logic, or was just out and out rude and being a dick.
It all changed in the lead up to the 08 election. It started to become obvious that reddit was being gamed by Obama supporters the same way the pro-war people gamed Digg just a bit before. Many brought it up to the moderators, who's personality's also had suddenly changed from being pro-free-speech to selective enforcing rules. They started using bots to upvote content, and a member by the name of goldf1sh created a bot to track inorganic voting. He was told he had to remove the bot, or would b banned a couple of days before the election. The other bots however, they were allowed to stay.
Whereas Reddit used to be a place you could get up to date news, and insights about the news from people "in the know" and thus gain a good understanding of news and events and topics... Now, >95% of all the content on this site is fake, inorganic, fake news and vapid virtue signalling.
When you can be banned from subreddits for stating verifiable facts reddit lost the plot. When Digg turned shit from the morons, reddit was there for those that wanted something else instead of being abused. There is no other reddit, now that the morons have turned this reddit into shit.
