Lawyers are professional assholes. That means they get paid to be assholes. Lawyers also hate to work for free. A lot of them are actually pretty reasonable outside of work.
In short, he probably doesn't feel bad about this. He's getting paid. And since this was a very serious charge, he's getting paid quite well.
