It's nauseatingly gross. And what's so strange about it is that it has to be there. It's so commonplace now that it's part of the formula, especially for pilot episodes so that the audience knows that it will be part of the deal of course.

Can you imagine that say Pugsley had dropped, say, eels into the pool during the swim practice of a girl bullying Wednesday? And that one had penetrated her vaginally (it's absurd I know but so is the piranha) complete with blood and her screaming only for him to deadpan that he'd done the world a favor?

Why does the culture so clearly savor violence towards male genitalia and present it as empowering cool girl behavior?

I like to play " reverse the gender". If every female character and every male character had been reversed, would the reception be the same? How would people relate to a male character murdering/castrating women? Would people proudly proclaim it as relatable?

Another Netflix example from a few years back, Riverdale season 1. Betty finds out that her (missing? murdered? I can’t recall) sister’s ex-boyfriend wrote some mean things about her sister in a book the boys keep to write notes about all the girls. They drug him, take him to a mountain cabin, strip him naked, handcuff him while in a hot tub, crank up the heat to max, and then threaten to beat/kill him until he confesses.

The ex-boyfriend is 17, which makes him a minor. Kidnapping a minor is a life sentence in the US. Drugging him, torture, attempted murder because of heat stroke, all serious felonies. No consequences for Betty at all. She should have never seen the outside of a jail for the rest of her life.

The only reason I even gave it a watch was because it had Tim burtons name attached to it, now I say fuck him.

And as usual, the main antagonist is a religious white man colonial. It's like common leftists, learn another tune already.

I considered giving it a try since I enjoyed this other Addams Family movie, but seeing how feminism and all this woke shit plagued it, well looks like they lost a viewer.

I could overlook everything in OPs post because as a fan of the Addams family This is pretty much in line for how Wednesday acts.

However as I progressed through the episodes of course every man is incompetent, the villain is a white guy, little jabs about patriarchy this, etc. Wednesday claims to be a free thinker but regurgitates feminist spew. She’s perfect at everything of course.

I don’t see how feminists could find it inspirational

I like the Wednesday character and while I found the cinematography costume and settings well done.

I actually thought they screwed the pooch with the character

She came of as incompetent and a tad stupid

She literally went after every red herring with absolute certainty and only found the culprit by chance

Scooby and the gang would have caught the bad guy in one 20min episode

I think the problem is that it normalizes hate towards males. I grew up in the post 1970’s performative feminism all over television and in the classroom. It led to a few guys in my school internalizing hatred of males from our teachers and television. Without a decent father or male community these guys become isolated and destroyed inside. No one cares because they have a dick. They’d have more luck if they cut their dicks off and announced it on social media.

I watched it, there was a few dumb references and buzzwords but otherwise it panned out how any other "whimsical witch" show plays out.

All the women are usually devious and controlling and use their powers to get what they want kinda deal. Its nothing new if you compare it to pretty much any other witchy type show that came out years ago.

Woman with supernatural powers controls man because he has powers of beast, they're usually trying to free a powerful being (normally satan) and other woman defeats it by chance as the underling when all seems hopeless.

If you take a look at every character in Wednesday - man or woman - hardly any of them are ever smart, cause if they were these series would be a lot shorter. Kinda like if you watch any DC show everyone does dumb shit all of the time to generate content.

All the villas were kinda dumb, the love interests were dumb, her female roommate was dumb - even Wednesday did dumb stuff all the time but you know, plot armor.

All things considered Wednesday wasn't really that bad, its just a rehash of a commonly used storyline where there's rarely a competent character in order to make the series run longer and get more $$$

The last sentence is stupid. Young girls taking inspiration from Wednesday? Really? Wednesday is fun as a fictional character, but if you met someone like that in real life, everybody would hate her and find her insufferable. She's a dangerous psychopath that should be locked up. And that is an example for young girls? What is the writer of that piece smoking?

I've never bothered to watch the show. But I have to admit I get at least a chuckle when someone gets even a graze to family jewels. I think as men we shouldn't take life too seriously and focus on what some show is depicting us as. We are the society, we drive it and we are responsible for raising our sons in a manner where they don't get affected by some show.

I watched only the pilot and it was exactly what I expected. A bunch of males as death objects, white knighting, liberal/ antinatalist ideology, mary sue, male weakness/female strength & Male retardation/female brilliance. Male villainy and female divinity. I cant stand shows like this.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Wednesday's charactermore of an antagonist? She's basically one step away from being completely evil.

That being said, male characters do lack any sort of dimension in a bunch of these shows, especially with a female lead/"you go girl" agenda.

I watched the season. I'm not the sensitive snowflake type. Yes, it's obvious that Wednesday is a feminist and she's also an atheist. In general, she hates the world and everyone in it (because like most feminists, they see everything as systemic). She is also wicked smart and a lethal weapon. So do you get upset or do you see this is just the characters characteristics and no political point trying to be made? Or is there? I think someone needs to ask Tim Burton. /shrug

Are we seriously doing this now. Like when I first joined the sub I believed everything I saw but now it just feels wrong and this is another case. The show was a good show I actually said it right before she did and so did my cousin who is very heavily leaning towards the ideologues of this sub. The show was a good show it was funny for all the wrong reasons and they’re really just going off of a character who’s existed for decades and decades. And feminists saying it was inspiring usually just say that because the actor is a girl like I’ve seen so many cases of feminists saying this and then saying they haven’t even seen the film. People really do hate a lot of feminists like them and so do we but I really doubt it’s worth having a cry about it on reddit. I thought whining about tiny little obscure things that no one cares about was a feminist stereotype since when is it ours

I am 27F. I could be described as seeing both sides. On the one hand, I have experienced sexual assault. I have experienced trauma at the hands of men in my past, and it made me distrustful or shy of being near men. I met my BF 27M and have an easy time empathizing with things like this that he shares, and I totally agree with not making violence against men SUCH a comedic staple.

I notice that men are volunteered for physical labor constantly, whether you guys feel like doing it. When you try to describe not feeling like doing it (a perfectly valid reason?) people attack you. I have to unfortunately protect him from my Mother who just wants to use him for his strength.

I have many more examples but hopefully y’all can tell I mean this sincerely, I have 2 suggestions for why all this is the case:

Do you guys know that on average, men are like, 4 times stronger than women… You guys are just so strong, that it can be really scary. That’s it- women just dont (There are always outliers I know) posses the same physical abilities. This makes men automatically the one with the power. Modern day intricacies cloud this, but it’s all made up laws. When it comes down to it, women know that men are strong, and it really scares (me anyway). I would still avoid most strange men forever, only because of this reason.
Y’all enjoy fighting. This seems like a simple statement but women (again I know outliers on both sides some women like to brawl and that’s ok and some men hate it I know) For example I go through life hoping a fight does not become a choice on the table of any situation. My boyfriend views it as good sport, a whimsical inevitability of not only life, but for men, and anything with primal instinct I guess.

Just some ideas from someone who genuinely wants to help the world get along 🤪
