So what you're going to have to do is switch to long game. You're going to have to get girls interested in you and hooked on you before you have sex with them. Somewhere along the line you need to let them know that you're a carrier.

Alternately, you can find a girl with herpes and go bananas.

[–]Pubesauce 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You're going to have to get girls interested in you and hooked on you before you have sex with them.

That's as scummy as a girl "forgetting" to tell you upfront that she has a kid. It might work, but she'll most likely be even more put off by not being upfront plus an STD rather than just the STD. I was speaking to a girl years back who waited until we had been talking to each other for a month before letting me know she was a single mom because she "didn't want to scare me off" - in the end it didn't make me next her any less quickly.

[–]Canwang23 points 11 years ago [recovered] (8 children) | Copy Link

Well, it sounds like you contracted hsv-1 based on it being contracted orally. The thing about hsv-1 is,about 80% of the population has it and doesn't even know it. I would definitely aim for long game approach and even ask them to get tested before you have sex. Odds are in your favor that someone will have it and you can continue as per usual from there.

One thing though, I admire your honesty with your partners and PLEASE continue doing that. It would be extremely fucked up to transmit that to someone else when you are fully aware that you are a carrier.

[–]TempusRerumImperator 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Yea 80% have it on their mouth, not on their genitals though. This situation could be easily avoidable by just being vigilant. Dont let a girl with an open cold sore anywhere near your penis.

[–]Zachar1a3 points 11 years ago* [recovered] (5 children) | Copy Link

Sorry, but the HSV virus can still be transmitted even if no symptoms are present.

[–]TempusRerumImperator 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Won't allow me to crosslink, but see my post further down the line. It explains how low the chances of infection actually are (like 1%).

Basically getting BJs is like driving a car, i could get in an accident, but i still need to drive. I just gotta go about it in a smart way, so no drunk driving and no getting BJs from a woman with a cold sore.

[–]thechairinfront 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Welp, I guess it's no more blow jobs for anyone from here on out.

[–]Iplaychesssometimes 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Unless, you know, you have monogamous sex. lol but who wants that, amiright?

[–]howimetyomama20 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Unpopular opinion, but true story, if you want to have a couple dozen partners you'll likely end up with HSV I and or II and or at least one variant of HPV for your trouble. They're so common that a majority of people already have HPV, and that's remarkable considered the skewed nature of the sexual marketplace. My favorite statistic -- a woman leaving college having four partners has a 85 percent chance of having HPV. Every year it gets worse. They're spread even with consistent condom use. Standard STI screens don't even bother checking for them. When you go to your county health department for a check -- which you should do if you're spinning plates -- the HSV test is visual. Have lesions? Positive. Don't? Negative. Want an actual blood test? You have to pay. That's at this county and two neighboring counties.

For many folks they're asymptomatic and they aren't aware they're carriers. And/or they don't tell their partners.

My guess is that most people aren't telling their partners.

Feel free to read into why sexual morays and sexual repression existed in our patriarchal culture for thousands of years.

Go to publix, ask for a chicken pox vaccine if you have herpes....100% of patients in this study had no recurring herpes outbreak over through course of 6 years.... this can be helpful http://www.dovepress.com/efficacy-of-the-anti-vzv-anti-hsv3-vaccine-in-hsv1-and-hsv2-recurrent--peer-reviewed-article-OAJCT

Thats not how HSV works, paisan.

It takes a couple of weeks for the virus to show any symptoms. This means you got the HSV from someone else.

[–]proof_TRP_works5 points 11 years ago* [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

Redpill, BE CAREFUL. At this point I would say make every bitch show you her clean STD test before you even touch her. Bitches are dirty and my life is ruined.

The problem with that is HSV isn't even tested in most STD panels because its so common as others have pointed out. So even if they show you a clean STD result you can still get it. If you think holding frame is hard, try doing it with a cold sore on your lip. Work out, stay low stress and take Lysine and ZMA to lower your cold sore rate.

Also, avoid arginine and foods high in arginine such as peanuts. I ate a whole container of peanuts and got 2 cold sores at once, kept eating them because I didnt realize what happened and got another one just as the others were healed. There's a relationship with lysine and arginine, if you have too much arginine and not enough lysine your chances of developing a cold sore skyrocket. I take lysine daily, about 2-3000 mg and more during a cold sore. Sugar also causes cold sores in my personal experience.

I've had great results using Bactine to help with coldsores. Do a search on it and read up, the main ingredient is very effective at speeding up the healing and sometimes I've stopped them completely in their track. I get the "tingle" before a cs, apply bactine and it goes away completely.

I've read about the shingle vaccine reducing cold sores as well.

http://www.dovepress.com/efficacy-of-the-anti-vzv-anti-hsv3-vaccine-in-hsv1-and-hsv2-recurrent--peer-reviewed-article-OAJCT

There's a reddit thread on it as well.

Quoted from the reddit post.

Results: From 2005 through 2011, for the 24 anti-VZV vaccinated patients, the average number of herpes relapses decreased to 0, correlated with an increased anti-VZV antibody level and clinical recovery of all patients, whereas no improvement was observed for the 26 nonvaccinated herpes patients.

From this wikipedia page. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Varicella_vaccine

One study has indicated that anti-VZV vaccine protects against oral and genital herpes outbreaks.[38]

Looks promising and I'm going to try to get the chicken pox vaccine.

To the people who think HSV is gross etc, don't spin plates or make out with random women. It is possible to meet a woman, get her to take the specialized std panel that checks for HSV and then go steady based on the results, but if you go the partying/plate route your whole reality will be shattered if you wind up with HSV 1 or 2.

[–]red_pill_1 23 points23 points23 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

"None of them will stop the hamsters." What exactly about std avoidance is "hamstering"? It is you, not them, who is unwilling to confront the truth - your new std has made you objectively unattractive. Secondly, it is your fault for not wearing protection with some skank plate. Most women who are content to have repeated no strings attached sex with you are also doing so with other men, so condom use should have been mandatory.

[–]fukewe 10 points11 points12 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

HPV & Herpes are transmittable even while wearing a condom....

They're both viron that infect the Dermis itself.

[–]TekkomanKingz 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]fukewe -3 points-2 points-1 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm chucking this near the top so that you see it and can realize this is no big deal.

Genital Herpes is basically a Bull Shit disease, it causes as much harm as a cold sore. Don't have sex when you have an outbreak. Other than that get on with your life and quit telling every girl you want to fuck about it.

Here's some history about the disease. IE it wasn't considerd a VD until a drug company with a drug to sell started the hype:

I don't understand this. He has a condition that 80% of all people have, and this removes him from the sexual market? In other words, 80% of all people are off the sexual market?

I mean I've had HSV1 likely since I was a toddler and I've hardly given it a thought.

[–]TekkomanKingz 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

See my comment below/above. It's actually commonly passed from mother to child or relative to child via kiss.

But HSV-1 on the dick is perceived as nastier.

[–]2alisonstone 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Most of the people who have HSV-1 have it in their mouth, not their reproductive organs. People who don't have it on their reproductive organs probably don't want it there.

[–]thechairinfront 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

And if a chick told you "Hey, I've got herpes." You'd still stick your dick in that instead of slowly backing away? I think not.

[–]NeopolitanAfterglow 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'd ask her where and what kind. If she says "oral, though my last outbreak was a few years ago" then I would laugh and dive in dick first.

If she had a maggot infested patch of crotch pox then no, probably not.

[–]Senior Contributorcocaine_face 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If you have sex with more than about 6ish people, you should assume you have either HSV1 or HSV2. Probably both. HSV1 does make you less likely to contract HSV2 by about 50%, IIRC.

Despite the fear-mongering, they're not big deals. Most doctors won't even test for them in an "STD test" unless you specifically ask, because they are so common and the freak-out is so high. The vast majority (> 80%) are asymptomatic and don't know they have the infection. For the small portion that do have symptoms, they're usually unnoticeable, and usually happen only 4-8 times in a lifetime (typically you feel a little under the weather - there may be a sore somewhere on your body that's hard to notice unless you go looking for it). That process is typically done within the first year or two, and your body has antibodies and the viral load is virtually undetectable as long as you have a healthy immune system.

So in short, don't worry about this. Herpes is mostly just a way for girls to slut shame other girls.

Source: I used to be terrified of STDs, and I've had sex with a lot of partners. As far as I'm aware, I have none (last time tested), but as I said, most doctors don't test for HSV.

[–]TekkomanKingz 8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Guys HSV/HPV is unavoidable. Most people have it you were just unfortunate enough to have an immune system that doesn't block it or tolerate it well which leads to outbreaks. So the stigma I feel is evolutionary. Evolution dictates they want a mate who has an immune system strong enough to suppress a virus even though it still lives inside the body. Anybody who had chicken pox still has Herpes Zoster which can become Shingles as you age later. Try explaining this to a non-medically literate female will be futile.

My Wife has HSV-1 (oral) and I'm sure I have it as well but I don't have any symptoms and Docs can't really test unless you have sores. There is an expensive blood test which is only partially reliable available if you desperately need to know.

You got HSV-1 on your dick which is rare, because HSV-1 prefers the mouth. I'd say for any guy looking to avoid getting these things:

  • Always use protection no matter what the activity is as much as possible. A girl won't care if you get a cold sore but if you have even just a blister or boil down there (not from infection) they get the willies because they are uneducated and don't understand the human body.

  • Keep your immune system jacked. I have been around the town and never caught anything (at least that shows up on the blood test). Zinc is key in preventing viral transmission of all kinds.

Beef up your immune system to suppress future outbreaks by taking in more Zinc daily but no more than 40mg a day or you will have copper deficiency anemia.

[–]NotQuiteRedPill 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

IgG testing can give you answers anytime, not just during an outbreak. It's a blood test and they can check for HSV1 and HSV2. What it cannot tell you is the location. Meaning, it can say yes, you have HSV1, but it doesn't know if you have it orally, genitally, or for the unlucky lottery winners, in both places.

Seriously, IgG testing has never been wrong for me. I have had cold sores since grade school and this test is always positive (no surprise). It looks for long term/permanent HSV antibodies.

Quest and Lab Corp can do this test.

[–]TekkomanKingz 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thanks for the heads up. I think the only benefit to getting the test is to confirm you don't have anything worse when you are sick and blood test shows negative for all other standard STDs.

Sometimes people's immune systems are so bad that HSV-2 makes them feel like they have Lyme disease.

[–]1kingofpoplives 7 points8 points9 points 11 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

So the stigma I feel is evolutionary

The stigma is marketing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herpes_simplex#Society_and_culture

OP is getting screwed, not because of the disease, but because drug companies created a stigma to make money. Really, it is no more than a relatively harmless skin condition in an awkward location.

My advice to red pillers, if you can weather the outbreaks, do not get tested. Once you get that diagnosis, you become legally obligated to disclose to all new partners -- see how well that is working out for OP. Remain one of the blissfully undiagnosed masses (roughly 80% don't know they're carriers).

Do not fuck during your outbreaks. Once the outbreak ends, your odds of transmitting the virus become quite low. If your immune system is strong, you may never have another one.

[–]deadally 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

So what you're saying is that if you have genital herpes, don't tell anyone, and don't get a diagnosis so you can maintain plausible deniability.

Re: herpes as a relatively harmless skin condition. Maybe so, but should a potential sex partner be at risk of contracting it because you want to get laid? Gonorrhea is a relatively harmless and highly treatable bacterial infection. So maybe your next partner with the clap should just let that be left a secret, because odds are she won't transmit it.

Tl;dr- You're hamstering this.

[–]1kingofpoplives 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

don't tell anyone, and don't get a diagnosis so you can maintain plausible deniability

Do what you want, man. 80% of the people who have this shit don't know anyways, so it's not like you're saving the world. It's also not like women are commonly disclosing either. Your mentality is the equivalent of white knighting.

Gonorrhea is a relatively harmless and highly treatable bacterial infection.

Highly treatable is the key here. If you suspect you have gonorrhea, chlamydia, any of that shit, go get your antibiotics. Note that since you get cured, you do not need to tell every woman you meet for the rest of your life about your STD.

Those bacterial infections can also be much more harmful than HPV/HSV if left untreated. The viral stuff is naturally self limiting. The bacterial infections can cause infertility and other serious health problems, especially in women.

but should a potential sex partner be at risk of contracting it because you want to get laid?

They are always gonna be at risk because of the massive level of people who don't know they're carriers. This risk is very low if you are not having an outbreak and use a condom.

[–]fukewe 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

~what your saying is more or less correct. HPV is arguably more of a concern. Certian stains cause cellular changes in the epithelium of the throat and vagina. IE cancer

[–]NeopolitanAfterglow -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I have to say, your advice belongs in /relationships, not in /TheRedPill. Do you think that cavemen give a crap what cooties they send or receive from a cavewoman?

[–]fukewe -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

No he's using logic, there is basically only a social stigma associated with the infection, nothing else.

Gonorrhea is not a harmless infection it can spread and cause PID, in addition to both male and female sterility. Additionally there are now strains that are heavily antibiotic resistant.

source: Med student with BS/MS biomed.

You're the one hamstering.

[–]NeopolitanAfterglow 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

if you can weather the outbreaks, do not get tested. Once you get that diagnosis, you become legally obligated to disclose to all new partners

Not necessarily. In many states (and Canada) you're not even required to disclose HIV before barebacking someone.

[–]fukewe 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Where are your required to inform? In Sweden you don't need to inform for HPV or for herpes.

Can someone with knowledge please advise all on how to avoid such accidents. Also at what point/how is it best to ask a girl about her possible stds.

[–]1nzgs 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's assuming a girl will tell the truth. "Oh, I was about to let you fuck me but now that you ask about STDs here's my recent STD history".

There is no sure way to avoid it, it can trasmit through skin even. If you want to improve your chances, check a girl for any sores before doing anything. Use a condom until you know you're safe. Don't mess with random girls (even if it's encouraged on here). I would never fuck a girl on the first date, it's daft. You have no idea of her history, at least get to know about her lifestyle before slamming her (club sluts/party girls/rec drug users are very likely disease carriers) . Men who are reckless like that are risking their SMV for some short-term pleasure and bragging rights. This doesn't mean no plating, I'm just sayin you should be very selective with who you plate. I'm in my 30s and never had an STD in my life, and I'm in an extremely small minority.

[–]TekkomanKingz 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Every single time you engage in sexual behavior you are taking a risk. She can lie you know.

[–]rprando 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

To echo what's been said, you'll never know for sure even if you ask. The best defense you've got is to know the signs and avoid girls who are fucking tons of randos and/or the type of guy who would fuck a girl even if he knew she had something. My theory is that the further down the food chain you're willing to go for sex, the more likely they'll have an std.

Hooking up with girls loosely in your friend group can usually help you find out details about STDs beforehand. Friends of mine have gotten gonorrhea and it was because they fucked a girl they knew they shouldn't have but were too desperate to fuck something.

If sex ed taught me anything it's that it's a numbers game and all you can really do is try to lower your chances of getting something. That's why I think your best bet is to go for younger girls. An 18 year old is much less likely to have something than a 25 year old CC veteran.

[–]1constructiveasshole[S] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's why I think your best bet is to go for younger girls. An 18 year old is much less likely to have something than a 25 year old CC veteran.

This 1000%. My plate was 24 and blew me in my car on the first date. She fucked me on the second. She was great in bed and great at giving head which means she had lots of experience - another red flag.

[–]thechairinfront 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Can someone with knowledge please advise all on how to avoid such accidents.

You "Hey, You're clean right?"

Her "What? Um, yes/no"

You (if yes) "When's the last time you got tested"

Her (gets all upset)

You (Maintain frame and remain STD free)

Or

Get in LTR, remain in LTR and decrease chances of getting STDs significantly.

Also at what point/how is it best to ask a girl about her possible stds.

Probably best timing is before you fuck her and after she shows significant interest in fucking you.

[–]circlhat 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Don't have sex.

But in a practical sense keep a strong immune system and use condoms , but you will still end up catching something.

[–]deadally 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Another possible way to avoid STDs is to enter into a committed relationship.

[–]1independentmale 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Switch to herpes dating sites. There are many, and there are some hot and nice chicks on them. This might lead you to meeting some great girls. That's how I see it, at least. No big deal. Most people have some type of herpes anyway. Your life is not at all ruined in my opinion. This is an obstacle that might lead to a happier you in the long run.

At least with cold sores, here are some celeb examples. Important to get used to spotting because they're all done up for the public, the girls try to cover it with makeup. But my plate didn't even have one when she gave it to me, she had the beginnings of one that she didn't even know about. The doc told me core sores can be spread even when she's just starting to get it before she can feel it.

Often there are no symptoms unfortunately. A Smelly Cunt can just indicate a yeast infection. You are literally taking a risk every time you have sex. However, don't get unprotected BJs like OP and you should be fine.

Knew someone that intentionally passed the herp to his SO...and then dumped her once she was positive for "the happies". I even caught him trying to pawn off a dirty/laced shot glass on me. Luckily I've never caught it, but be careful where your cups come from in college settings.

i hate using them, but will reinforce the use of condoms. i have had chlamydia and a urinary tract infection before. it was terrible. thankfully, it was nothing serious. but you can imagine how scared i felt getting my blood drawn and simultaneously being tested for HIV/AIDS.

There are herpes positive dating sites. A friend of my brother is on them and says it's mostly women, so his SMV went UP in that group.

What the fuck. You already have herpes and it isn't curable so why the hell did you get rid of the girl? HAHA. JK bro. That sucks.

But in all seriousness....which type is it? If it is from a cold sore then it is herpes simplex 1 (HSV-1) then it will not keep showing up on your junk. It will go up to your lips. And honestly, the reports are that 90% of Americans have been exposed to HSV-1. Which are cold sores. They estimate that 62-85 percent (depending on age group) have it. I actually have the virus and got it from my mom when I was a child. I will have an outbreak on my lips if I get them sunburned so I make sure to keep sunblock chapstick on me anytime I am outside. Oh and I have found that I haven't had any "warnings" of a cold sore since I have been taking a regular dose of L-Lysine. It isn't a problem. But you shouldnt just out yourself to chicks unless it is herpes simplex 2 and you want her as a LTR.

But my regular knows I get cold sores but I wouldn't kiss her if I had one. I'd be like "No babe, no kisses right now. I have a cold sore". She always responds with "But I want to kiss you so bad. But OK." It's only a stigma if you make it that way. You are announcing it like you got gona-syfa-litus-aids.

HSV does not show up a day later. That means...

  • You already had herpes.

  • You have herpes, but not genitally.

  • You don't have herpes because you wouldn't be diagnosed in a day.

First things first. Go get an IgG test. NOT IgM. IgG testing can check for HSV1 and HSV2 (though it can't tell you the location).

If you ever had cold sores growing up, you will test positive for HSV1 and it's unlikely you'll catch HSV1 again, genitally.

While "asymptomatic shedding" is a thing, I'd argue that if you don't have an outbreak or even some weird irritation you can't identify, you're not contagious at that moment.

I have grown up with cold sores and have never passed them. Part of the reason is even some weird mouth irritation makes me think "maybe it's a REALLY SUBTLE outbreak." And those exist, too. Outbreaks so minor, you didn't realize you were contagious at that moment.

Valacyclovir works wonders on cold sores also.

and neither of us knew she had a cold sore.

bullshit, she knew.

begged me to forgive her and said she loved me and had no idea she could transfer herpes to my dick when she didn't have symptoms

Yeah if it's preceded by beggin and I love you it's a lie.

It's transmittable just during your outbreak. Your partners are safe the rest of the time stop advertising it as aids or some other permanent STD and you'll be fine.

[–]1constructiveasshole[S] 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

Not true. Asymptomatic shedding is a thing. I can pass it without having an outbreak.

Med student here,

Genital Herpes is basically a bs disease, it causes as much harm as a cold sore. Don't have sex when you have an outbreak. Other than that get on with your life and quit telling every girl you want to fuck about it.

Here's some history about the disease. IE it wasn't considerd a VD until a drug company with a drug to cell started the hype:

Herpes simplex was not always stigmatised. It was merely a cold sore in an unusual place until the 1970s. As late as 1975, a study of "Psychological morbidity in a clinic for sexually transmitted disease” does not mention herpes simplex because at that time, no significant morbidity problem (i.e. mental anxiety or illness) was associated with the virus.[98]

Pedro Cuatrecasas states, "during the R&D of acyclovir (Zovirax), marketing [department of Burroughs Wellcome] insisted that there were 'no markets’ for this compound. Most had hardly heard of genital herpes...” Thus, marketing the medical condition – separating the 'normal cold sore’ from the 'stigmatized genital infection’ was to become the key to marketing the drug, a process now known as 'disease mongering’.[99][100]

Since the creation of the herpes hype, some people experience negative feelings related to the condition following diagnosis, in particular if they have acquired the genital form of the disease. Feelings can include depression, fear of rejection, feelings of isolation, fear of being found out, and self-destructive feelings.[101] These feelings usually lessen over time. Much of the hysteria and stigma surrounding herpes stems from a media campaign beginning in the late 1970s and peaking in the early 1980s. Multiple articles were worded in fear-mongering and anxiety-provoking terminology, such as the now-ubiquitous "attacks", "outbreaks", "victims", and "sufferers". At one point, the term "herpetic" even entered the popular lexicon. The articles were published by Reader's Digest, U.S. News, and Time magazine, among others. A made-for-TV movie was named Intimate Agony. The peak was when Time magazine had 'Herpes: The New Scarlet Letter' on the cover in August 1982, forever stigmatizing the word in the public mind.[81] Herpes support groups have been formed in the United States and the UK, providing information about herpes and running message forums and dating websites for sufferers. People with the herpes virus are often hesitant to divulge to other people, including friends and family, that they are infected. This is especially true of new or potential sexual partners whom they consider casual.[102

That last paragraph sounds a lot like the current 'rape epidemic'.

Thank you for bringing some logic to all of this.

Let's not bullshit...When it comes to real science questionnaires have no standing. This asking people about their history is just asking for rationalisations and bad science.

Like any virus it's very vulnerable to the external environment (no membrane). It simply can't survive or infect the other person in a limited distribution like the one described in asymptomatic shedding.

[–]TempusRerumImperator 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Herpesviruses are dsDNA viruses with membranes. Its the non-enveloped ones you have to worry about, they can survive outside the body for a longer period of time.

[–]asd1100 1 points1 points1 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Are you referring to the capsid? because that isn=t enough to keep it alive outside of a host.

[–]TempusRerumImperator 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

external environment (no membrane).

That's what you said, i was correcting you. It has a membrane. I am not referring to the capsid, which is a protein shell.

Furthermore, yes a capsid is enough to keep viruses alive outside the host. See rotavius, for example. non-enveloped, capsid is stable. Your reasoning is flawed.

[–]asd11001 points 11 years ago [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link

Does the herpes simplex have the ability to infect a new host in the small numbers preceding an outbreak?

From a microbiological standpoint. Are they able to survive long enough on the host to be able to infect it?

[–]TempusRerumImperator 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Long and diplomatic answer is, It's all about surface area and viral load, as well as susceptibility of the new host to infection. Mucosall IgA levels come to mind here.

For example, OP claimed to be infected from a person who had HSV-1 and was not showing symptoms. Well, apparently asymptomatic shedding does happen in some cases, I have linked a study below that claims it is as low as 1% in women. As to the viral load, it was directly measured in this case because they used a virus culture technique.

http://jama.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=380293

This was a study from 1990 though so it is very old.

I have another study here that uses PCR Analysis. now PCR is VERY accurate in determining if DNA is present even in TINY amounts, because it amplifies whatever sample is taken, due to the nature of the technique. This new study claims to see viral DNA It reported oral shedding was detected by PCR on 12% of days. and Genitoanal shedding detectable on 20% of days. These studies did not measure viral Load by culture, they just tested to see if at least 1 piece of viral DNA was present at any given time.

Mark KE, Wald A, Margaret AS, et al rapidly cleared episodes of herpes simplex virus reactivation in immunocompetent adults. J Infect Dis

Basically what i'm saying is that it could happen, but it is still very unlikely to actually happen due to a number of factors. OP just got handed the short end of the stick here.

[–]asd11001 points 11 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

Well seeing as it's tegumentary that is my point the amount of viruses simply isn't enough to get you infected or survive for long enough on your skin. That 1% could easily be accountable for people that have micro lezions.

that low probability is the origin of my scepticism, lets take pregnancy. If you cumulate two contraceptives the odds are ridiculously small. But accidents still happen, it=s not because you are ridiculously unlucky but because there is a human in the process you need to trust.

[–]TempusRerumImperator 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly, which is why enveloped viruses like Herpes and Hepadna usually don't survive for long outside the body, that 1% could easily have been from microlesions, which i suspect is the case. Rota and Norovirus, being unenveloped can survive for long periods, which is why you hear of cases on cruise ships if they are not properly cleaned.

Wow that sucks, you've pretty much put yourself off the market.

You no longer need to worry yourself with attracting women. Your SMP is now rock bottom. If you still have a high SMV then you can still function and continue on. Remember, TRP is more than just sex.

That said, yes women Lie about themselves. This includes being VD positive. I have encountered I and I almost ended up in your boat. A friend informed me of her condition.

Women tend not to have morals outside "if it benefits me, it's good." Honour is a male abstraction.

Of course they cover that up with a lot of moral chatter, which they will contradict when push comes to shove.
