I'm a woman.

I think I'm convinced that men should be allowed to relinquish paternity.

However I disagree with the time frame. A man should not tell a woman after she finds out she's pregnant that he's going to absolve himself of responsibility, in the same way I believe a woman should state her view on abortion before pregnancy or the potential of pregnancy.

Both parties should discuss the parameters and sign legal documentation before sex commences.

I've discussed this with my female friends... a lot. All of us figured it would make the decision easy for us. We wouldn't have sex with someone who would renounce responsibility of the consequences of even safe sex (BC failed, condom broke, etc...). And if that meant that we wouldn't be having PIV sex until we were ready to have a kid with someone then so be it. Essentially casual sex between men and women would decline.

A guy on AskMen replied to this sentiment "Then just get an abortion." And that's when it hit me... too many men don't consider the consequences of sex or view them flippantly? Abortion is NOT birth control. It's a last resort and it's an option many woman take seriously. If your options are "abort a fetus" or EDIT "raise a child alone" raise a child alone and not receive child support (I forgot "raising a child alone" is already common) END EDIT you're going to think twice regarding who you have sex with. And that's the whole point of signing documentation pre-sex, you guys get to flesh out stances on post-pregnancy options before there's a chance of pregnancy.

Thoughts?

TLDR

I'm okay with paternal renouncement as long as it's discussed and signed pre-sex.
