Feminist checking in (don't kill me). I think most reasons for infant circumcision are bullshit. Cleanliness? Be a parent and wash your kid's penis and teach him basic genital hygiene when he's old enough. I understand that there are a few benefits, but they don't seem worth it to me. Yes, circumcision may decrease the risk of UTI's, but males don't experience UTI's very often anyway, and most UTI's can be easily treated with antibiotics. Yes, circumcision can help prevent contraction of STI's, but so can teaching your son about safe sex. Unless your son has a medically necessary reason for circumcision, I don't see any justification for it. It's mutilation to me.

I had to do a project about infant circumcision for one of my classes and I was disgusted at the amount of girls that justified it because "uncut penises don't look normal" and they "wanted their son to be accepted". I don't think the solution to an aesthetic "problem" should involve chopping off foreskins--how about we just preach acceptance of both circumcised and uncircumcised penises?

I think its more a case of misinformation. These parents have been told its cleaner to cut the boy so they do. Kind of like for a long time parents were told to institutionalize mentally impared children. They were told this by people they trust (be it professionals or family) then the idea gets stuck there.

Good news is information spreading on the dangers of foreskin removal is helping. Circumsicion rates in the US are dropping at a slow but steady pace. Its hard for people to admit they made a mistake but we are winning that fight.

It's an excuse like all of the others, just one in a list of ever-changing bullshit justifications to continue harming babies.

Can't wait to see what moronic excuse will come next. Maybe it'll become politicized, and we'll hear "you better get him cut, cause those tax and spend socialist liberals don't do it now, you don't want your son to be like them do you?"

It's just an excuse because women do not like looking at scary normal penises or think future girlfiends will be scared. My nephew had his foreskin whacked off for this very reason.

I think it's because there isn't really any other reason to circumsise somebody (besides religious reasons, and the foreskin being too tight or other health problems) that somewhat makes sense. Of course, the argument that circumcising your kids because it might be easier to clean is also complete bogus.

I don't understand the cleanliness argument either. I'm uncircumcised and washing isn't exactly rocket science. Anything is gonna smell if you don't wash it
