Hi, r/MensRights.

Here's an idea that's been troubling me lately, and I think it's one we can all tackle quite positively together. Our modern definition of what makes someone a good man is defined primarily in terms of what he does or does not do in regard to others. A good man respects women. A good man does not harm the innocent. A good man provides for his family. A good man attains status.

I've heard it argued, and I think I may agree, that this definition may be largely responsible for the current failings of young men in life after college and of boys in school. After all, we know what a good man does with other people. But what is he? What qualities does he possess? Intelligence? Strength? What inherent qualities make a man a good man? I think that this is something that we, as a community, and other communities like us can think about and, ultimately, work to promote. For all the boys who come after us, we could work to promote in our society a supportive concept of masculinity.

I, therefore, propose that this thread be a forum for throwing ideas around on the subject. Let's get to it.
