The answer is no.

There are some people here who have (for some reason that we'll never know) seized upon and identified themselves with their hatred for women. There are misogynists here and elsewhere on reddit.

There are others here who will express frustration about the problems they face. It is not uncommon for this expression to be anti-woman. This does not make that person a misogynist. Disliking feminism but being pro-equality also does not define a person as a misogynist.

This is a forum focusing on very real and very difficult issues that men face. It is also an anonymous forum, and there will be vents and rants and anger. Considering the serious issues that come across here, it's not surprising that people vent, although it would be good if people would put a [VENT] in their post title.

When you see someone yell "misogynist", it's often because the accuser has given up. They usually either want to avoid examing their own beliefs, or they want to shock their debate opponent out of his or her viewpoint. Sometimes it's truly because the debate opponent is really thick-headed, but whatever the reason, it's rarely warranted.

Overall though, no, this is not a misogynistic subreddit.

Nope. I routinely unsubscribe from single-minded subreddits: politics, athiesm, etc.

This subreddit is the one I look forward to reading the most. It's not so much about finding my way out of my current situation but more about where to go from here. How can I stop my son from becoming ensnared by the same things that ensnared me? How can I get out of this situation without becoming destitute and in jail?

That is, it's about men's rights and not very much at all about "herp derp, womynz r gay"

The subreddit is not misogynistic...some individuals who post here are. Then again, some will confuse opposition and criticism of feminism as misogynistic. Some people don't know their asshole from a hole in the ground...you can connect the dots from there.

If someone barges in your house and starts spewing messages of hate, does your house then become a house of hate?

The answer is sometimes. In a forum discussing the advocacy of the rights of men there's always going to be some people who are advocating for male superiority instead of gender equality, just like in the context of feminism there's people arguing in favor of female superiority instead of gender equality. And in the context of everything there's some people who argue in favor of the extremes because they feel particularly strongly one way or the other.

That being said, I think the broader question of whether the advocacy of men's rights is in and of itself misogynistic can more easily be answered with a simple 'no'.

r/mensrights is less misogynistic, overall, than most MR sites; it's one of the few on which people sometimes argue against and downvote misogyny. On sites like A Voice for Men and The Spearhead and MGTOWforums, misogyny is celebrated and upvoted.

That said, r/mensrights is still infested with a lot of misogyny, which sometimes erupts into things like the thread I discuss here:

Depends what you mean.

Is the aim of this subreddit, as a whole, a misogynistic one? No. Absolutely not. This subreddit does not promote misogyny.

Is the general tone in some of the posts and comments misogynistic? Yes. More than 'some', actually. There are a lot of misogynistic posters here, as much as we wish (and sometimes pretend) there isn't. A lot of them get upvoted and encouraged, as much as we want to pretend they dont. But that's not just this subreddit, and not because of this subreddit either.

Any misogyny you see here is because of misogynists, NOT because of MRA's. Perhaps someone can be both, but certainly not the whole time.

There are just as many misandist tones within discussions of feminism. In this sense, we're just as bad as each other (although I may get lynched for saying that). It doesnt excuse either.. but I do find the overall aim of this subreddit to be less prejudiced than many feminist discussions..

I still think this subreddit needs to make more of an effort to really recognise misogyny and not make excuses for it ('Oh, people are just angry and bitter!') because those excuses would not be accepted from a misandrist feminist either. It's NOT an excuse. Equality needs to be taken more seriously if we hope to achieve it.
