So, my boyfriend's in med school, and yesterday was going through an emergency response scenario complete with mocked-up apartment, dummies, and actors. The situation was responding to a call about domestic violence. There was a bathroom room, and a bedroom room. He was assigned with another student to check out the bathroom.

In there, he found a dummy corpse, with blood everywhere. This was the "husband/father", and he was dead in the shower. Upon going into the bedroom, there was the "mother/wife", screaming, covered in blood with apparent attempted suicide wounds on her arms, and a slightly injured "daughter" still sitting in the room. The other students originally assigned to the bedroom were already taking medical care of the woman, so his response was to take the child out into the hallway, away from her screaming, blood-covered mother--who might be a murderer in this scenario. Not taking her away, just out of the room.

He was made to bring her back in, because the woman was instructed to scream even more to get her daughter back into the room. And the person running the scenario reprimanded him for his action. The other student who found the "corpse" first agreed with my boyfriend, but the instructor's bias about DV and gender roles was very, very clear. Kinda scary that this is what our future medical professionals are being taught.
