This is a good first step, but it is far from adequate. Keep in mind that the civil suit against DSK remains. Not only must he prevail there, and collect damages large enough to cover his legal fees from this fiasco, but he must be awarded substantial damages related to the irreparable harm his reputation and political career have suffered. And, of course, she still needs to be charged criminally for her fraudulent behavior and abuse of the legal system. I'm certainly not holding out much hope for any, much less all, of the aforementioned necessary next steps, but it is what I consider necessary for there to be anything resembling a just resolution to this shameful affair.

There is one positive to this disgusting case – it can be pointed to as an example of how powerful female privilege has become. It now trumps class privilege and white privilege, and if a poor black woman being taken at her word when accusing a rich white man doesn’t prove that female privilege is real, nothing will.
