Someone raised objection to the outrage expressed by some of the comments here that call for severe punishments for these attackers. I think I can explain it.

Sentencing serves all manner of important functions, e.g., deterrence, rehabilitation, and punishment, etc. But one legitimate purpose of sentencing is to express the community's outrage.

We are stranded in "zero tolerance" times when it comes to any alleged misconduct involving male sexuality -- where a teen peeing in the bushes or having sex with his slightly younger girlfriend lands him on a sex offenders list and he's forced to submit to penile plethysmograph testing http://falserapesociety.blogspot.com/2011/01/barbaric-penile-plethysmograph.html (where, one expert says, the purpose is to humiliate the subjects, some as young as 12 years old) -- I think the reaction we are seeing to this story is this: Men are often victims, too, but their victimization is generally ignored or laughed at. But when men are falsely accused of rape, and when they are attacked by baseball bats or their testicles are subjected to brutal electroshocks -- which likely would draw guffaws on other reddit sites -- SOMEBODY needs to be outraged for them.

The outrage we are seeing here is really a question: Where is the zero tolerance when men are the victims?

And here's the answer: It doesn't exist. Because the general feeling is, men can't really be victims.

Even if the teen wasn't mentally impaired, this would be just horrible. Since he is though, it's that much more nauseating.

When I got to the part where it said he was begging to know "Why is this happening to me?" and they just told him to shut up... ugh. My chest aches, and I think I have some dust in my eye.
