The crazy thing is that feminists will point out that this is simply one article and is not representative of anything. I don't care about which guys women want or if it makes them hypocritical. I can't blame people for just trying to make it through life being happy with the image of happiness drilled into them from childhood.

What makes me mad is the ridiculous double standard, seeing the double-standard reversed, and seeing women cry openly about it.

It is called hypergamy. Basically, women only find about 20% of the men sexually desirable and about 80% of the women go for this 20%. If you look at High Schools it is more like 90% of the women chasing after 2% of the men. This is why men have historically controlled womens sexuality to some degree. Historically and genetically, about 80% of the women reproduced while about 40% of men did.

This creates a situation in every society where the losers are used as labor and cannon fodder and eventually those same losers say fuck this and decide to destroy shit....it has happened before and will happen again, I give western civilization about 10 yrs before we have a revolution or instead the men are killed off in a great war...hmmm, it will probably be the crusades again, christian v. muslim...it has happened before and will happen again. Well, it's unclear. No school has yet had its federal funding been withdrawn for being in violation of Title IX (http://www.sj-r.com/top-stories/x1271341658/No-school-has-ever-lost-aid-due-to-Title-9-violation). But each school that has been found to not be in compliance by a court (usually for sports team related stuff) has changed its rules so as to be in compliance.

The OCR letter has also been criticized as not being legally valid (see http://www.openmarket.org/2011/04/11/education-department-changes-burden-of-proof-in-sexual-harassment-cases-under-title-ix/ and http://washingtonexaminer.com/blogs/opinion-zone/2011/04/education-department-undermines-due-process-sexual-harassment-cases%20on%20campus).

I had the same reaction to you when I read the letter. I didn't see the funding threat either, but that is the implication of the letter. The OCR usually sends these letters out to individual universities to give an advanced warning that they are screwing up and to give them a chance to remedy things before a suit is brought (http://www.insidehighered.com/layout/set/popup/news/2011/04/04/education_department_civil_rights_office_clarifies_colleges_sexual_harassment_obligations_title_ix)

I don't think that a University could have its federal funding pulled as a result of not changing the standard of proof. I don't think it would stand up in court. The problem is that the University would probably lose cash for each lawsuit it takes on. Every man or woman who claims sexual assault would have the OCR take up their case, regardless of the case's validity, if a university does not lower its standard of proof.

So you have to look at it from the University's perspective, there's a chance of losing federal funding, but more importantly there is a high probability of having to deal with more lawsuits if the standard of proof is not lowered (and if the other mandated changes are not made).

I feel bad/lazy, but I know there is a reddit link in this subreddit to an article on the Yale case listing all the current OCR cases. There was definitely a suit brought against Notre Dame. And off the top of my head, I believe there are four against Duke.

Bottom Line: even if the OCR threat is baseless, it will increase the amount of civil suits and will hurt any University that does not get in line with the program.

edit: I should clarify the cost-benefit analysis. I do know of civil suits against Brown, GWU, Vermont law, and William and Mary that have been brought by men falsely accused and not given due process. My guess is that there are less of these cases and they cost less (no OCR-provided attorneys) and so the University would rather deal with more of them than more OCR cases.

Actually, it doesn't--colleges get around the entire legal system by claiming that they don't actually pursue criminal or civil actions, just the standards of admission or expulsion from the university. What they conveniently don't say, however, is that expulsion from the university on grounds like sexual assault is as good as a guilty verdict in the court of public opinion; not quite as bad as a dishonorable discharge (which you have to mention on job applications) but close enough, if they ask you why you never finished college. Certainly no other accredited college will accept you with an expulsion on your record; that's what happened to my buddy, until he went to an unaccredited seminary school and became a minister.

Regardless, lawyers can't help; they aren't allowed in student tribunals (where all defenses have to be arranged by the defendant himself) and their knowledge base doesn't come in handy with the byzantine regulations of tribunal < judiciary oversight < ombudsman < provost < president < board of regents. It's a nightmare; the best a student can do is actually to leave school before the hearing takes place--but even that doesn't work when criminal allegations come up, as they can try the student in absentia. Tragic, isn't it?

You wouldn't get away with it. You'd have motive, and your alibi wouldn't hold up forever.

Best to get a friend to pay a hitman. Make small, discrete withdrawals of cash at random intervals in the year, or get all your pay-checks cashed. Leave no money in a bank.

The police will have their case, and they'll likely have genetic evidence somewhere about. Cut the hitman's tongue out and break his fingers when the job's done. Don't forget to cut out his eyes. Flush the removed bits. Bleach the everliving fuck out of the toilet and the rest of the bathroom.

I'd get a rental shed and pay with cash and do the hitman-breaking there. Leave him there or dissolve the corpse in hydrochloric acid (get the plastic containers--the flimsy ones, for the love of murder).
