We chose not to have our son circumcised. Bottom line: it's permanent, it isn't medically necessary, and it isn't my body. If my son wants to be circumcised, he can be circumcised when he's old enough to give informed consent about his own body.

During his first week, we had to have his blood drawn repeatedly (jaundice) and he wailed so horribly over what was, literally, a pin prick. Even that broke my heart. I can't imagine putting an infant through unnecessary pain.

My first reaction to seeing "genital integrity" in the title was to think of the humorization of males being kicked in the ball. That's one of the worst physical and sexual abuse and its allowed... wtf. The idea is to castrate men and even boys.

Sigh... when my son was born seven years ago, we had him circumcised pretty much right away. After all, I was circumcised, right? It's done all the time, so what's the harm?

Oh, man. When they brought him back, there he was, just a few pounds, shivering everywhere and moaning constantly. I tried to touch his hand to make him feel better and he pulled it away, probably in terror. He didn't settle down for hours, until he finally passed out.

I doubt, after having seen what that operation actually does to a baby, that I would be able to bring myself to have it done again if I happened to have another son.

I once made the mistake of bringing up male circumcision in a political science class when the feminist professor was talking about the tragedy of female circumcision, which still goes on in Africa. She also neglected to mention that a large number of African women who were born and raised in the states willfully travel back to Africa just to have the procedure done.

If parent's shouldn't have the right to decide whether their sons are circumcised or not because it is not their right to decide... Why should they have the right to decide what type of medical care and treatments they receive?

I was circumcised. My father and his father were, too.

If I ever have a boy, I wouldn't get him circumcised just because I really don't see the point in doing it. The topic doesn't get me all salty like you guys, but yea, I just don't see the point.

When I was born, My father wanted me to be circumcised. The doctor asked him if he wanted this because he had "masculinity issues..."

If my dad wants me circumcised then doctor should do it. It's not his job to imply that my dad might be doing it "for the wrong reasons." He should just do it.

I don't understand all the hoopla. I was circumcised and I am glad I was. I can't remember anything about the procedure either.
