This is true. We should remember, that people make choices as individuals, and we aren't beholden to our biology. Additionally, infidelity is statistically more common among men than women.

Those who accept we all may possess a natural urge to have multiple partners may want to explore polyamory or similar arrangements, rather than sticking with rigid traditional relationships which clearly may lead to disappointed expectations.

What I'm wondering is wth the evolutionary strategy of the "nice, resoureful man ('dad')" character class is supposed to be. Sure, offspring will have a higher chance of survival, but how does this help if it's not their offspring in the first place?

(I mean, how was niceguyism adaptive? I don't mean 'strategy' as in conscious planning)

I read an article written by this republican philosopher who declared that "locking women" into monogamous marriage was the key that led the human species into fast evolution in the last 10000 years. Apparently, before, women would take temporary mates for sex, who would later leave them, not caring for their offspring, in search of new "combinations". Men were rootless and didn't do anything worthwhile because "you could never know if the kid was your kid" - so, why work for someone else's?

So, again, "men were coasting life because women were promiscuous". In a nutshell.

Now really, there is an inequality here: the mother is always known but the father was uncertain up until the advent of DNA testing. Was this the root of all sexual restrictions imposed upon women? An attempt to even the scales?
