I don't even think the amount of money they make is the biggest issue with racism/misogyny/etc. in the sex industry. It's one of the only industries where you can straight up publicly fetishize, video tape and publish abuse of someone based on their gender/race. How horrific is that?

Sex work in general is never good, empowering, or positive, and i am not sure how so many women have fell into the trap. They will literally reduce themselves to a porn category then be proud of hundreds of men with wives/kids pay them. Or make the mistake of joining an actual company for SW or they become a stripper etc, and the abuse starts tenfold.

If you're a "woke" feminist WOC and you watch porn, you're only going to give yourself insecurities. We do not live in a post-feminist and post-racist world. Unless and until we do, porn can never be fair to women and especially WOC.

It is the height of ignorance and entitlement to think that respecting sex workers by consuming porn is even possible. If we want to "respect sex workers" we need to actively change society first before their work can be remotely safe, equitable, or fair. And by "we", I mean that the patriarchy, an institution that keeps hijacking the feminist movement by using its intellectuals and discourse against it, needs to change.

Saying that there's pride in sex work completely invalidates the majority of sex workers who are actually doing it because they have no choice, or do not perceive themselves to have choices. It is insulting to them. To try to make the distinction between those people and people who are "trafficked" is also insulting, because not all people who live in poverty are trafficked. Just because a feminist may live in a situation where they are privileged enough to feel safe enough to do sex work (and then not discriminated against afterwards when she wants to get another job in a different industry), does not mean that her experience is the norm -- even in her own country. It is myopic for feminist to act like it is the norm.

I created a new account just so I could speak on this. I was a sex worker for 6 years and I’m a black woman. The sex industry is the ONLY industry in the world where your “employer” can openly reject you based on race. You go get naked for this strange man just for him to tell you “they have enough black girls” meanwhile they’re aren’t any you can see…. Male customers will tell you straight to your face “I don’t get dances from black girls” or “I’m only wanting to try white girls tonight”. I’ve seen beautiful black women have too sell themselves short to compete with the white girls. You have to go where you fit in, as there are white clubs and black clubs. If you’re a dark skinned woman you know not to go to the white clubs unless you plan on being a fetish, so then you go to the black clubs and are still picked over by men for the lighter skinned girls. Money brings out the worst kind of pick me behavior too because your bills and family depend on it. This and of course a ton of other reasons pushed me out of the industry (Thankyou FDS you were apart of that change)

Great points. When ppl criticize OF or celebrate the site banning porn, weirdos come out of the woodwork to accuse them of encouraging the murder of BIPOC and/or trans ppl who will now have to put their lives in danger by meeting johns IRL. That's not being intersectional or looking at shit through a feminist lens. Being pro-sex industry means supporting the commodification of women and/or marginalized people's bodies. Or in other words, supporting fucking slavery. "Sex work is work" is akin to saying "slavery is work"! Yeah, no fucking shit. Truly groundbreaking.

They're trying to legitimize the channels wherein human beings are fucking trafficked. I took a whole class on prostitution when I was a women, gender and sexuality studies major. The ppl who promote it think that they're intellectual revolutionaries or some shit. No. Feminists have been writing about how anti-feminist prostitution is for literally centuries.
