True 50/50 will never exist, particularly if giving birth/raising children is something you’re planning on. It’s just an excuse for LVM to ask for more and give less. She will always end up overextending herself in an effort to be “fair”.

I can’t imagine having two children by a man that will happily let them sit in a dirty diaper because it’s not his turn. 🙄 There is no changing this. He will never accept a relationship where he has to try.

But…this doesn’t sound like 50/50. 50/50 would be he just buys his ice cream and she needs to go home and get her wallet if she wants some. It sounds like 100/0, and she’s doing everything.

By this count, she’s already doing the work of a single parent. May as well make it official and at least get his share via child support.

A lot of men will argue to death about how fair “50/50” is but reality is… it just shows low effort and pettiness because if you want to build a life with someone you truly love you won’t be penny pinching your SO or keeping a score of who paid more or who did more. Many of these men who insist on this, turn out very similarity into husbands like this OP. And it’s the woman, like this OP, who selflessly sacrifices more. That’s why take it as a warning sign if a man insists on a “50/50” lifestyle, cause to me it screams behaviour that eventually turns into this husband. So don’t give 100% if he’s not even willing to actually meet you half way. Until the moment men can share “50/50” of the pain of 9 months of childbirth, it doesn’t make sense

Ever noticed how supposedly 50/50 marriages end up being more like 80/20 - especially when the woman is pregnant/looking after kids?

There's 50/50 and then there's not doing anything for nothing. He's probably never heard of going "hey I got you this time, you'll pay next time". Does he never experience spontaneous reciprocity with people in his life?
I'll say this: dudes (people?) who are obsessed about doing everything 50/50 for the sake of a mythical concept of "fairness" (that strangely ends up working solely in their favor...) are nightmares and not actually concerned with equality at all. They're concerned with control and finding loopholes that work in their favor.

Their calculation of 50/50 depends on what is being apportioned.

If it’s money and they make more, the cost of anything is split down the middle.

If it’s work and they’re stronger, it’s still split down the middle. If it takes you twice as long to bail out the tub because you can’t carry a full five gallon bucket of water, too bad. You’re going to be humping that bucket for hours

If it’s food, you split the cost even if he eats twice as much.

If it’s dishes, he does the dishes when you cooked and were cleaning as you go, you do them when he uses every pan in the kitchen.

If it’s anything to do with your children from birth on, you may pay for all of it because you wanted the child.

It boils down to this: Whatever split benefits him is what he will say is the correct split. The spirit of sharing is not really exemplified in the typical 50/50 arrangement.
