I am a 26F and I am socially awkward around people of the opposite sex. I met this guy yesterday in person for lunch after meeting him online once. We study the same major and go to the same school. I wanted to be more social, and hopefully make a friend, because I’ve been staying home since COVID, and I don’t have a lot of friends, but it went terribly. A lot of awkward silences and I didn't know which topics were off limits, like could we talk about significant others and the fact that I would love to have a family someday and all. I didn’t want him to think I am flirting with him. With girls everything is much more natural and easier... I ended up leaving as early as I could to stop the awkwardness. I am so sad now, because he seemed like a really interesting person, but I feel like I messed up my relationship with him. I texted him afterwards to thank him for the meeting, and saying that I am looking forward to seeing him again someday but he didn’t reply for more than 24 hres now. Any advice to avoid something like this in the future and be less socially awkward around people of the opposite sex, anyone, please?
