Married in Maryland but move to Cali about 4 years ago so I think Cali divorce laws applies now since we are permanent residents here. 5 year total in marriage thus far and things are getting a bit shaky.. she is already looking into divorce precedings and talking to a friend who is a lawyer licensed in California and Maryland due to our incompatibility and personality. We are not at the stage of going down that road just yet as she is merely looking in but that is enough for me to want to start planning my exit strategy. We own a property .. I am ok going 50/50 on that since she help pay for some of mortgage. Even though I am the only person on the loan and have paid for almost 65 to 70% I am not going to dwell on that. What I am worried about is my governmemt retirement savings, personal savings, stock account, and mutual fund. Now she does not know I have these accounts nor the amount but I worked my butt off living frugal in order to save all this time. I don't want her to have a Pennie of it because she spends every dollar she earns. Part of the reason why we get into argument all the time is because of her shopping habits. Spending more than she makes. Purchasing high end luxury items. She Living on credit card debt now as well. I don't owe any credit card debt and from time to time I will help her pay for some. In addition, I have recently found out she is flirting with people at work and actually is developing a relationship with another guy. I am playing dumb at this point pretending I don't know so I can do what is best for me. My question is how can I move most of my money whether it maybe gift to siblings or other means to minimize my financial lost ? As I stated, I am ok with going half on the house but I am sure not going to stand around being betrayed and taken advantage of ... I am sure which ever lawyer she goes to will suggest her to come after everything.

A little more information: we have no kids. So nothing to worry about there and I doubt there will be spousal support. She makes 60k. One major thing is also I helped her get her USA citizenship..it took 5 years (about the duration of our marriage) she just became US citizen few weeks ago. She was from another country and came to this country with fiance visa.. what great timing right ? Thinking about divorce after just becoming citizen. I wish I can complain to immigration office and somehow gain leverage. Mostly I am just concerned about my accounts. Thoughts guys ? Thanks in advance.
