The problem was you let him stay longer instead of letting him figure it out. He needs to find a roommate and begone. Don’t try to be cool because no parts of FDS tell you to be the cool girl. Let him know he needs to be out by the 31st. That whole “waiting for his credit” is an excuse to stay longer and it takes about/up to 3 months for scores to typically change depending on the circumstances. So if he is waiting for January 1, it will be too late and you’ll be stuck.

All of the below is with the expectation he will do absolutely nothing, so it's a little overboard on effort but well it's obvious he will do jack shit nothing. This is also assuming he is not on your lease or mortgage.

Find a self storage place. Pay in cash in advance for a month.
Box up personal belongings. Or use contractor trash bags.
Move boxes/bags to storage unit.
Change locks to your home.
Send him location to storage unit and access information.
Block him everywhere.

I feel for you sis. My ex told me he wanted a divorce but then disclosed that he couldn’t move out because he had tens of thousands in credit card debt that I hadn’t known about our entire marriage. I sold our house so that fool HAD to move out.

Seriously though - this sub is going to come at me hard for this - I told him I’d pay for his share of the bills beginning on the day he moved out until the house closed. He was able to find a place with low rent and free first month or something so it was in his financial advantage to leave. Money plus his dream of bringing all the women from the bars to his bachelor pad got him off his tail. It was worth it to me because living with him after we decided to end our marriage was extremely traumatic.

Remind him that his move out date is approaching and he needs to get his stuff out of your place before his move out date. Make it firm that you will not bringing him his stuff, packing it for him, or allowing him to come back and get it after his move out date passes. Also remind him that he needs to change his mailing address so his mail doesn't keep coming to you. The post office has forms, mail forwarding, and hold options - tell him he needs to go talk to them and switch the address now. Otherwise he will keep getting letters and mail to your place and use this as an excuse to keep coming over.

In the meantime, secretly plan a strategy. Start now. If you're renting, you need to talk to your landlord now about changing the locks and get him off the lease if he was on it. If they want you to pay a fee or whatever just do it.

If its a property you own, make a trip to a hardware store and buy a new lock and key set. You will have to switch it out yourself. If you aren't familiar, ask the hardware store and checkout YouTube videos. Pay attention to his schedule you will want to notice when he's not home so you can switch out the locks when he's not there. You don't want him aware of whats going on. If you have a passcode style door research how to change the pass code number now so you're ready. I would also start carrying mace and look into a concealed carry permit - it sounds like he isn't gonna be leaving or have a place in time - he may get violent, loose his temper, or even try to break in. Please prepare yourself for the worst case scenario. If you have a trusted family member or friend nearby to you, give them a heads up about the situation as well as his move out date. This is for your safety. You may want to consider getting security cameras for your doors if you don't already this way if he breaks in or harasses you when he gets kicked out, you have video proof for the police. Think and expect the worst case scenario. Its unlikely hes gonna get a place by new year considering many places have background checks and paperwork before moving in.

When the time comes and he does get kicked out, have the new locks on. He'll probably try calling you like a psycho or knocking on the door and harassing you. This is why you change the locks in secret while hes not there then when he returns he can't get in. If his stuff is still there, and you're nice you can have it bagged up outside so he can grab it. Do not let him inside. I would have his number blocked and have him blocked on all social media on move out day if he hasn't already left.

If he does show up and is bothering you, do not let him in, but call the cops and tell them you are being harassed and if its your home tell them hes trespassing. With his name off the lease, you should be good. You need to be FIRM and kick him out on move out day because it sounds like he will continue to live there and leech off you Otherwise.
