That sounds great, right?
IME, when that question is asked compulsively it’s not about your happiness- it’s about whether they’re succeeding or failing as a man, their ego.
It becomes a major problem because they don’t look at the actual issues causing trouble in the relationship. Because they can’t get over their hurt and emotional constipation that sHe nOt hApPy???!! HoW sHe NoT hApPy wIt mEeeEeE????!!!!
It comes from a latent sexism.

You’re only winning in life if you know how to keep pretty woman satisfied. If she not smile 24/7 you get ballz cut off. Cus you is failure as mAn.
-
They think they’re so amazing as men just being with them means you should be 24/7 smiling with no issue to ever arise and if you do it’s all put on you being a moody unreasonable bitch and they get SUPER defensive because “i know i’m taking care of business and she say i not!”
The major issue with this sexist and emotionally constipated thinking is it doesn’t allow you to be a real person in a real relationship. You’re a smiling forever grateful happy doll and anything else elicits anger.
Whenever you bring up even small issues in the relationship he becomes so hung up on his outrage and shame that. It becomes an uproar of- HAPPY???!! SHE ISNT HAPPYYYYYY?????!!! after all I do for her???
Meanwhile, there may be situations of raging and regular disrespect from his family or friends or other situations where you or not getting your needs met
But his ego is so riled up he never listens enough to your words to look at the actual disrespect or problem that’s causing you upset. Every single time- YOU become the problem. For not having the right mood, only a bitch would not be happy after all he’s done for her. He can’t believe you’re not happy!!
I’ve honestly developed a hatred for men who ask or exclaim this when you’re literally telling them right there and then what is wrong and they skip right over it instead choosing to fixate on what a perceived slap to their ego your not being happy is

Yes, when you do have an actual issue they gaslight or play games to avoid addressing it or laugh it around etc

I agree that it is a gaslight to angrily externalise the problem from themselves or any failure on their part and instead put it on a “problem of perception” on your part. You being moody and ill-adjusted and just generally not at peace in your own life. It’s bullshit from men who don’t measure up.
It’s also a way to get inside your head by taking a dig that’s centered around your personality and that is a part omen or curse on your future. “If you leave me, you’ll never get anyone else how you are” pouts
