Hmmm I wouldn't say free as they are "semi separated"(wtf is semi separated, you're either together or not. This is just fwb style crap) "because of his work" (note how he always puts his importance and work above her work) and she was even staying in the same room as him in a hotel. I think this is just him trying to escape reality with her when he feels like it, but still keeping her when he wants her for sex etc. She's just a toy for him 🤷‍♀️ and now she's stuck with him for 18 years.
