This isn't anything new. The left has been preaching "equality of outcomes (equity)" for decades now. Giving people equality of opportunity leads to inequality, because of the different choices people make. But by equity logic, any inequality is taken as de facto evidence of discrimination, even if that discrimination is impossible to ever identify or quantify, and thus warrants not only compensation to the "oppressed", but discrimination against the "privileged" group.
