I bumped into my husbands best friend yesterday and he looked terrible upon questioning, there has been a health crisis in his wife’s family. His wife and I have always gotten along but we have never been close. I would like to show our sympathy in some way but my husbands go to would be to buy a bottle of booze but it doesn’t feel appropriate. There is a cultural difference and allergies so I don’t feel particularly comfortable making them a meal either. I also know she would just trash flowers. Would a gift card to a restaurant be too impersonal?
