I've just got back from spending a couple of days with an old friend from college. I think she has become a bit of a Pickme since graduating, so I'd appreciate some more critical perspectives on this situation.
On 18th December I matched with a guy OLD. I was in quarantine after having a positive covid test, so we couldn't meet up at the time. I sent him the first message. It's not an app that forces the woman to message first, but I was bored home alone in quarantine. We messaged quite a bit while I was in quarantine, all on the OLD app. Yesterday the app was super slow and kept crashing, so I asked for his number.
We've sent each other a few messages on Whatsapp and in the evening, he asked "Can we arrange a date for when we can meet?" I replied less than 10 minutes later "I'd love to meet up when I'm back in X (the city we live in)." He already knew that my train home from my friend's city was at lunch time today, so I'd be back in town this evening. I was expecting him to message me some time today to ask me on a date, but that didn't happen. Instead he wrote a message asking me how my day was and telling me about his day.
I was ready to give up on him and block and delete then, but my friend offered to help me write a reply. I ended up messaging him back saying "I was expecting you'd suggest a date. Have you changed your mind?". By this stage I had basically already written him off as not interested in me enough to make an effort (it's been 2 weeks of texting and we don't celebrate Christmas so that's not an excuse, I sent the first message and asked for his number. He's not made much effort really). His reply was "Sorry, of course not! I am just not great at suggesting dates and it slipped my mind. I am sort of free all weekend if you are? I don't know what your thoughts are with meeting inside re covid. Weather doesn't look good though for outdoors." Which I translated as him saying he's too lazy or disinterested to be bothered to try to orgaise a date, so unless I spoon feed him exactly what to do, he's not going to do anything. My friend understood it as him being shy and a bit awkward and she says she has her fingers crossed that we'll have a date and I'll realise it was worth persevering. Would I be dumb to block and delete now? I think he's made his disinterest clear, but maybe he is just shy. I'm not against dating someone a bit shy because once you get past that it would be fine.
