It's a bit sad that in the 80s, 90s and very early 2000s internet dating was tailored for people in your situation. Back then there was a stigma around internet dating and it was seen as only for lonely desperate weirdos... but that filtered out anyone who wasn't seriously looking for a partner. If you were stuck in a tiny town you could find a like minded person from across the country or even overseas to connect with.

I wonder in there is a print version of that somewhere now? Like a lonely hearts pen pals service where only people who are serious enough about finding a partner would be weird enough to write hand written letters or something. Idk, just a passing thought.

Dating sites, that's pretty much the only way I ever dated.

Honestly though, my advice for anyone living in a small town would be to work towards moving to a place with more people. Not just for dating, for like... everything.

/EDIT Oh I just read in another post that you can't leave. That's tough then. Big city dating has its issues, but small town dating is notoriously tough.

Can you expand your radius for online dating. Plenty of people I know who live remote meet people online first and then after a few months meet in person because of the distance.

Another idea is to his your own event. Advertise for the area radius you think would work, get some sponsors and host a date night where there are tables you can interview everyone like speed dating.

How about auditioning for one of those dating shows like farmer wants a wife.

If you are caring for an elderly person in your family, first I applaud you for doing that. That’s really awesome, especially at doing it at a young age. Very rare to see this.

Second now would be a great time to take you and said loved one and give them a life experience like no other and travel the world.

You can do this by going on nonstop cruises.

I myself looked into having my Mom put on an endless cruise instead of living in a retirement home.

It is actually a common thing and you can meet lots of people.

And who knows after you do the cruises for awhile, maybe the loved one you are caring for will want to stay permanently on cruises (another thing that many retired elderly do)

You don't, unless you go elsewhere. Most people in small towns know each other when they're young, at school. The chances of meeting new people randomly are very low (I also live in a small city and I'm very lonely).

i see you help your parents care for your sibling, so my questions are basically: what happens if you do leave? and are your parents the ones who are putting this responsibility on you?

i'm asking because like... what if you met the most amazing woman in the world tomorrow and in a year you're talking marriage? do your parents expect you to live at home to care for your sibling until one of you dies? i'm really concerned about you just being stuck there forever if this is the case. i realize these are invasive question so you don't have to answer, but this is sounding pretty outrageously unfair to you even taking dating out of the equation

I've read the comments, I think you should be extremely proud of yourself for being a caregiver and taking care of your sibling. I think that's very noble of you.

Though I gotta ask, have you gone to that one bar or those churches? Also, is your small town near any other towns or is it REALLY secluded?

No clue, college is probably your best bet but outside of that I've never naturally met someone in public and made friends. I'm not anti-social or anything, but I guess I've never gone out of my way to strike up conversation with people either.

Honestly if you caregive to someone you care about and cannot leave, it's seems the only option is to join social media, travel more and widen your dating radius even further. Time to start drive long distance and flying.
