Body positivity does not apply to men and women hide behind it as a double standard so they can make fun of men’s appearances without consequence. If men even remotely make fun of how a woman looks, there are always claims of objectification, misogyny and sexism, not to mention social ramifications because everyone will rush to the woman’s defense. But making fun of receding hairlines, thinning hair, etc is perfectly acceptable and more or less encouraged. FDS actually argued that they’re doing it for “men’s own good” to keep us in our lane - weren’t we not okay with making fun of overweight people as a motivator for change since it’s just downright insulting and abusive?

This is no more evident than in how often women make fun of men for losing their hair. Anyone who has suffered hair loss, man or woman, knows how awful a feeling it is to see your appearance changing rapidly but simultaneously having no control over it. Unlike bodyweight, you cannot go for a jog and suddenly get your hair back. Your only options are: 1) finasteride, a prescription drug to shrink the prostate that has the added benefit of regrowing hair via 5AR inhibition but also carries sexual side effects that can kill your libido, 2) hair transplant surgery or 3) a hair system (hair piece/toupee). I often see people on social media making fun on balding men to raucous applause and comments; and it’s largely still okay to make jokes about men having small penises, although that’s at least getting shut down more often nowadays. Of course, doesn’t stop people from making these jokes in the first place, and baldness and small penis jokes are still the lowest hanging fruit that will continue to get picked, usually by women. Until something changes, we will not truly have body positivity for everyone.
