A lot of people seem to think drafts are a thing of the past, and future wars will be all remote drones, with no one actually having to step on a battlefield.

The current Russo-Ukrainian conflict shows that is rubbish. We may not have another world war on the scale of the 20th century one and its sequel, but drafts aren't going away. If anything, they're being reintroduced.

I live in Poland, so the war is quite close to my home. When all this started I had some kind of mental breakdown. I was 't even thinking about myself so much. I was constantly thinking about all the men I liked and loved (I'm gay). I imagined them being forced to suffer or even die. I imagined guys who wouldn't even hurt a fly being forced to kill other people. These images were haunting me to the extent,that even when I was walking through the streets of my city and saw dads with their children, guys with their girlfriends or young lads having fun,I imagined them all without limbs, mentally destroyed or dead, lying in mass graves. It took some time before I could turn back to my normal life without overthinking and being haunted by these terrible images.

I see Ukrainian men everyday. Most of them probably have lived here before the war or have managed to escape before the ban. Whenever I see one, I'm so fucking happy. I'm glad that they're safe.

No single human should be drafted. And the government is brutally evil if they create a war and do that to men. To hell with wars. They're supposed to be a thing of the past. If they start a war, they clearly don't learn from history, because those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

Luckily for me I'm a cripple who is hypermobile(think MS but attacking connective tissue in joints) and this makes me a 4-F/medically unfit for duty, so I'd probably get shipped off to a shell factory... for once the fact that my body has been falling apart since I was 17 is going to save my ass.

Honestly to me it’s not that scary, the requirements for joining the military are high. Even if you do get drafted you could get peacetime if any member of your family dies or if you get an injury and I’m not sure about the manual labour part. It’s simply war ends = go home a hero.
