A large banner currently on Wikipedia.org which reads:

"WHEN WE CHANGE THE STORY ABOUT WOMEN, WE CHANGE THE STORY FOR WOMEN"

I realise this isn't going to reflect well on me, making this post, and I'm not against women having the rights and opportunities they deserve as human beings.

But I'm absolutely sick to the back teeth of seeing this crap everywhere, without question, without context, without justification, a constant barrage of "women are vulnerable, women are in need, women deserve our help".

What about the fucking rest of us? What about men? What about viewing us, collectively, as human fucking beings? Why is this biased shit everywhere? Why am I being demanded to give and give and give when I as a man get nothing but a kick in the bollocks?

Stop ramming this shit down my throat, it's only making me less likely to care.

The main issue with this is it's so vague. What story about women?

Even if you read into it what they want you to read into it, that is, that women are a perpetually downtrodden and overlooked part of society, it's actually a bad idea even for women, even in the short term. It plays into a victim narrative that is at least a lot less true than is often assumed. Even in situations where it is true - where some women, or a woman, has been treated unfairly - you'd need to be a lot more specific about the nature of the problem than "the story".

This is why there's so much unpleasantness and argument. This implies something awful without really saying anything. It's an impossible problem to address, even if you wanted to, because it's so unclear what the problem is.

In completely good faith, I don't really know how to address this.

Agreed, but nothing we can do about it, just the state of the world right now. Hopefully the pandering overload (as there is an absolute fuck ton of it) will backfire, and girls growing up now will help get rid of all that crap when they're old enough to be making the decisions.
