From reading articles like this over the last several years.

The theme is always the same "Men are doing worse in XYZ, but MUH GENDER PAY GAP."

And people wonder why the GPG is being pushed so hard because it is used to justify just about everything bad happening to men.

Notice that when women are disadvantaged, it's because of a society-wide conspiracy created out of pure hatred of women, meant to keep them down, but when guys are at disadvantage, well that's just because men are lazy losers who just expect everything to be given to them; actually in a fair society most men would be homeless and all women would flourish - that's because only women know how to work hard.

I also love how she presented jobs in energy sector, construction and agriculture as an example of male privilege. Yea, the pay is better than in other entry level jobs, but the working hours are longer, you often have to work outside in cold or sweltering heat, the jobs are physically demanding and will ruin your body after a decade or two. Oh yea, and in some of them a single wrong move can lead to your death or permanent injury. But we don't talk about that. It makes the narrative harder to spin.

And let's not mention that many entry level jobs are either heavily biased towards hiring women, or straight up hire only women, which makes it even harder for men to find other work than the dangerous, hard, physical jobs. Being able to ruin your body by carrying bags of cement in 30°C heat is a privilege and you better to be happy that you have it, shitlord.

And if you think that's bad, look at the employment situation that awaits a lot of males that do go to college even after they graduate.

I wish men's rights organizations would be doing more to work against quotas favoring women and the kind of recruitment and hiring practices colleges and jobs practice that are geared to helping women. Every time there is such a quota (whether for an opening position at a college, a position for a scholarship, an internship, a job), it means that there is an incentive to discriminate against a male candidate whenever the other person competing for the position is female. No one else is going to challenge this issue, they will try to racialize it or draw it into a culture war. And trade school is just not an option for all men, many of those jobs require physical stamina that not all men have.

While we are at it, for the men that fall behind, there is little to no adequate safety net for them as stories like this show.

There is simply no fair leveling playing field for men. If people can't solve that, then the status quo will continue, which is more men not being able to participate in the labor force and not being able to meet milestones past generations were able to.

So, I don't see why this is a negative or is fuel to be derogatory.

If you think about it, over the course of the last decade and a half, the college education system has grown more and more expensive, while value of that same level of education has diminished.

To the point that arguments have been brought forward on the benefit of tradesmen and jobs that frankly don't require a college education. Additionally there are several industries that one can build a career in that don't require higher levels of education.

Also, if someone is a really good salesmen, they can work in any industry. That skill isn't taught without real experience or just the rare golden tongue.

Mortgage industry professionals don't require degrees. Niether does banking. Easy to get entry level and work up.

Pasting this for context, because I know nobody here is going to read the article:

The reality is that more men are attending college than ever before. According to the Pew Research Center, 36 percent of American men ages 25 to 34 had a bachelor’s degree in 2021. That number has risen from just 20 percent in 1970. Over the same 51-year span, the percentage of women ages 25 to 34 with a bachelor’s degree has risen from 12 percent to 46 percent. Today, the average student body is a 60-40 split in favor of women. The growing gap between men and women is not because men are enrolling less but because women are enrolling more.

Ya I get the "so what" is insensitive, but the point of this article is to debunk the myth that men are doing worse than before or that women's education comes at the expense of men. Plus this increase in women's enrollment is not translating to material advantages; you might expect that if women have higher college enrollment they would have higher average income compared to men, but that's not the case.

The reason women enroll more than men is simple: they need it more. Lots of men make good money without a degree in fields like construction, trades etc. which are male dominated. High paying female-dominated fields like nursing are more likely to require a degree.
