Obviously this is a multi-tiered issue with staffing shortages, COVID, burnout, and overall people post covid being shittier causing nurses and teachers to want to leave. There is also some talk that the declining birth rate is leading to more of these professions retiring without enough to re-fill slots. I wonder though if part of the problem is that my generation (young millennial) was strongly encouraged to entire male dominated fields and to be CEOs and scientists. For me, entering nursing, teaching, and roles typically held by women would feel like I failed to push women further. I ended up entering a different predominantly female field bc I gave up this notion and decided to do what I love, but I wonder if that is part of the issue. Rather than valuing helping careers and stating how important they are, we told young women do something different and break the glass ceiling and these might be the long term effects...Just a thought and curious to hear from people in those fields!
