"#MeToo is over if we don’t listen to ‘imperfect victims’ like Amber Heard"; Gross article denies Men can be victims of abuse & encourages people to never believe Men. Individuals such as this are why so many Men feel uncomfortable about opening up or seeking support.

If it takes this much pain & suffering for someone as wealthy/famous as Johnny Depp to get justice, imagine the amount of struggling the average man goes through in a False Accusation

It seems like the main argument behind this article is "1 in 5 women are sexually assaulted, so it's a travesty that not nearly as many men are held accountable."

Two big issues with this:

  1. If one man was able to assault 500 women, then why would we expect the number of of men held accountable to equal the number of victimized women?"
  2. The "1 in 5" figure has been repeatedly debunked. It's a lie.

IIRC the 1 in 5 study counts drunken consensual sex as “sexual assault”.

But yeah, bullshit.

[–]Blauwpetje 15 points16 points17 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Who never had bad sex, wondering afterwards: ffs, why did I do that? But the women admitting that were counted as victims of sexual violence, even when they themselves didn’t think about it that way at all.

From what I've heard they put out a questionnaire and among those questions was "have you ever had sex while drunk?".

Had a couple drinks with your boyfriend of two years and then fucked? You've been sexually assaulted.

Forbes says "They ask if students ever had sex after their partner ‘expressed displeasure’ or criticized their attractiveness. They ask if students had sex with someone after they “show[ed] they were unhappy.” Students who answer affirmatively are counted in the one-in-five statistic."

Guy got mad you didn't suck his dick? Sexual assault because he was "expressing displeasure". Someone unhappy before you fucked? For any reason? Sexual assault. It removes so much context that the statement is essentially meaningless. Two drunk people having sex is entirely different from someone intentionally getting someone else drunk with predatory intent, and that's entirely different than getting smashed as a couple and then going at it. No shit when you remove the context a lot of things that we don't consider rape or SA are "technically" SA.

Don’t forget all the other things from that survey which began to be used in Title IX, like regretting it way after, having ulterior motives like thinking the guy is weird (in my own case), among others

If I am drunk, and you are drunk, and we have sex, then who raped who?

[–]Joe_Immortan 28 points29 points30 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah it’s been a while and unfortunately I don’t remember the author but a study I read found that most sexual assault on campus was perpetrated by a few men who were essentially repeat offenders

Nevermind for 1 in 5 women claim to be true it would be millions per year. Multiple orders of magnitude more than official stats. More than every other crime combined nationally, regionally and locally.

[–]63daddy 18 points19 points20 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So many problems with this article.

  1. As with RAINN’s misleading “conviction rate”. This article focuses on biased survey information regarding sexual assaults, rather than actual cases filed. Obviously, if a women doesn’t even file a complaint, there will be no action.

  2. The article acts as if colleges are only taking sexual assault and harassment seriously if even the most minor cases result in a student being suspended. A man patting his girlfriend in the butt constitutes sexual harassment if she’s in the wrong mood, but obviously that’s different from forcible rape.

  3. The huge flaw is in expecting colleges to adjudicate cases of sexual assault. Those who have been sexually assaulted should report the crime to the police. Criminal activity should be handled by law enforcement and our judicial system, not by colleges. Colleges should stick to handling cases of academic dishonesty and leave criminal allegations to those trained to investigate and adjudicate criminal activity.

With shit like this being continually published by mainstream media, we're fucked. And the latest BS around the Depp/Heard case. Fucked. I thought maybe there was a crack in the wall of misandry and lies lately. Guess they're doubling down.

Marathon, not a sprint.

This article is proof they need to acknowledge our voice, which is far more than you have seen in the last 50 years. That is where it begins, not ends.

It is proof that we are no longer small enough to ignore and disregard. They finally see us as a threat.

The fact that Stacey Abrams on her gubernatorial run referenced Dr. T. Hasan Johnson's 15 Point Black Male Agenda and the rise of Passport Bros was proof enough for me.

As K.S. said, 'Atlas shrugged.'

Today in absolute pure grade A prime bullshit headlines.

Men's Rights: It's unjust that Men --->FALSELY<--- accused are being punished by an unequal system.

Media: Let's mischaracterize men's rights in the headline.

[–]pooky311 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A 100% of women in heterosexual relationships who falsely accused their partners or abused them in some manner are false accusers and abusers. You can literally present anything like that.

[–]FlyinTheOintment01 points 3 years ago [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link

Universities suspended just 1 of every 12,400 students enrolled each year for sexual misconduct. That’s despite studies consistently finding roughly 1 in 5 female and 1 in 16 male students experience sexual assault in college, with LGBTQ+ students experiencing sexual violence at even higher rates.

[–]TenOfZero 20 points21 points22 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That 1 in 5 number has been debunked. Also I would assume a few perpetrators are responsible for the majority of assaults. It's not that a lot of women and men sexually assaul people, but the few that do probably do it a lot.

[–]xx_DEADND_xx 20 points21 points22 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No proof for the 1in 5 number
