I’m 43, and my stbxw is 44. We have 4 children. Our son lives on his own, and our two teenage daughters and under 8 daughter live at home. We separated last summer, and recently tried reconciliation over the winter. We have each been using individual therapists this entire time, and also started going to a marriage counselor around Thanksgiving. On Christmas morning, she asked me to move back home and really try to reconcile. That didn’t even last a month before she decided it wasn’t going to work. What’s done is done, and I am not going to try to change her mind. We had already filed for legal separation in our state before trying to reconcile, and that will also be the basic document for our divorce. I hate the state we moved to almost 5 years ago, and feel that my mental health is continuing to deteriorate out here. My family, as well as the close friends I grew up with, live about 700 miles away. I am seriously weighing the pros and cons of moving back home, even though my children will all remain here with their mother. Has anyone here made this move? How did it work out? I love my children dearly, but I am afraid that I am not the father they deserve at this time. This is not a product of the separation and divorce; this has been an ongoing struggle for me.
