I think that you should listen more to the group of people who share a characteristic to the people you'd be approaching and are likely to be more empathetic towards their concerns than the group of people similar to you who are likely to be more empathetic towards more selfish behaviour on your part.

Age gaps matter a lot less if everyone involved is over 35 or 40. When I was younger, my relationships always had age gaps, and there are two major issues with them in my mind: 1) Power imbalance (varies depending on the people involved) 2) Different levels of development

There's lots of talk about the first. For the second one, if you imagine a 30 year old with a 22 year old, if their levels of maturity are a good match at the beginning, they probably won't be after 5 years, say. The younger has a significant chance of not developing the way the older one expects and/or maturing past them.

Depends on the age and age gap. A 30 year old guy dating a 25 year old is no big deal. A 30 year old guy trying to seriously date an 18 year old is weird to me. A 27 year old dating a 22 year old doesn't move the needle IMO.

Once someone hits 27ish I say all bets are off. Don't care if they date a 27 year old or a 60 year old. It just doesnt bother me.

Nothing wrong with being attracted to a 18-25 year old. But being proud of your partner specifically for their age feels very mid-life crisisy. But it’s also not something to be ashamed of. Basically, being preoccupied with their age is a pretty big misallocation of priorities.

Men like younger women because it signifies fertility, better skin, perkier boobs, better fat distribution, less jaded attitudes towards men, less baggage.

Women don't like men having this preference because they'll always age out of it at some point. They always have to be 100% desired by their man forever, and it bothers them that he might find a younger woman more attractive one day.

18/19 is still really young for most people. It doesn't matter if it's a man or a woman, straight or gay, I think older people deliberately going after 18/19 year olds is about finding someone to control, which is why we feel protective over young adults dating older people. I do think once someone hits their early 20's they're usually in a better place to make wise and safe relationship decisions. Past 22-25 I don't think age gaps matter.

The root issue of the age gap relationship isn't really about age, but about the fact that younger people are more vulnerable to being in bad relationships in general, and older people that seek them out are usually doing so for the wrong reasons (wanting someone to control). Of course, there are always exceptions, but usually, when an older old man or woman is going after teenagers, it's should be a big red flag.
