I'd write something back to the effect of "Ma'am, if I was as informed as you I wouldn't have a need for your class. If a person could research all that information without guidance then the university wouldn't need to employ you. It is a teacher's foremost obligation to educate his or her students and that is my only request. You've presented something and I do not understand it. I'd like to correct this."

I study science and I've never been told anything along the lines of being told I can't discuss something because I haven't done enough research, every time I've asked a question it has always answered respectfully.

This is typical debate avoiding bullshit, she makes points that are vague and so can't be rebutted (how can you call bulshit on unnamed studies?), she avoids and discussion at all.

Push her, she is scared, she knows her job is threatened by people who ask tough questions and don't back down.

My take on this: she has feels, doesn't need or want debate that might challenge her feels...and you're a man, you're manifestly incapable of understanding her topic. She'll engage you as though you have a learning disability and she's trying not to make the topic too difficult for you or to hurt your feelings by destroying your position (her feels).

It really seems like this class of yours is going to be very "toe the line." As suggested in the last thread you might consider dropping or just sucking it up. Some academia has no place for any actual free thought or debate... Going into a mosque to argue evolution would probably turn out just as well.

Well. You will bring down a shitstorm if you present on the wage gap. It could result in harrasment and being failed in the class. Be careful whom you accept sexual and social advances from after that because you could be getting set up for social and educational assassination. But balls to you for having the courage to do so if you do.

When I was in school, I ended up in a lot of classes taught by professors in much deep water than I. Never once did I have a professor tell me that I was unqualified to have a discussion with them about any relevant topic. Even when I wanted to discuss "ancient astronaut" theories with anthropology professors (no, I'm not really an adherent. I'm not compelled to believe the theories, nor am I compelled to consider them completely impossible). Those professors engaged me on level. In fact, when I wanted to discuss how certain science fiction ideas might one day be fact, my physics professors were delighted even when they thought certain things were utterly rubbish. They enjoyed discussion about their field even if they thought my questions or assertions were silly

So. If you do the paper, be sure to use this sub as a resource. I would suggest avoiding citing A Voice For Men or any bloggers/vloggers, but reaching for primary sources that they use won't hurt.

The last thing of interest that she said was equating knowledge in women's studies with quantum mechanics(and some other less technical disciplines). Beginners in those fields should discuss them with their professors without having done a lot of research. Just like women's studies(this is my own sarcasm).

Definitely give that presentation! It would be a really great discussion with her and the class. She or another (group of) student(s) can present an opposing point of view, if you like.

Also, if she actually did use quantum mechanics as an example, you might find the following quote to be useful at some point - perhaps on a slide in your presentation! It's a true story about Richard Feynman, who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1965 for his contributions to Quantum Electrodynamics.

Feynman was a truly great teacher. He prided himself on being able to devise ways to explain even the most profound ideas to beginning students. Once, I said to him, "Dick, explain to me, so that I can understand it, why spin one-half particles obey Fermi-Dirac statistics." Sizing up his audience perfectly, Feynman said, "I'll prepare a freshman lecture on it." But he came back a few days later to say, "I couldn't do it. I couldn't reduce it to the freshman level. That means we don't really understand it."

I always say rather than to confront irrational beliefs head on, you should agree and amplify.

"We all know that women earn 77 cents for every dollar a man earns, but I've heard that line said by President Obama, who is rather moderate leaning for a Democrat. Is there a more liberal position on the wage gap that shows it to be 60 or 50 cents for every dollar? I'd prefer a truly liberal position to something so moderate."

I was going to take a women's studies class when I was an undergraduate. But, when I went to manually add it, and I needed to get their signature, they were really condescending about a guy wanting to take a women's studies class. After that, I figured a guy in an ROTC uniform would probably not do well in their class...

Keep at it, and yes do a presentation. Ask her which studies she is talking about and which paper tears apart the CONSAD paper. Get specific.

How stupid and self-absorbed are these university Arts lecturers? To think that their discipline (which is more accurately described as "Narrative Misandry and Narrative Female Victimhood") can be compared to quantum mechanics.

Just play it cool, and politely ask her for specifics in relation to which studies. Say you agree you need to read more, however you need specifics as to which articles she is talking about. Ask her to please be specific and not vague.
