So I usually am pretty quiet to be honest offline. I don't really like starting arguments but I hold my ground on issues.

Today in English class (college) my teacher asked the class who was a feminist and why/why not. I spoke up. I told them I was an MRA and some of the issues men face.

He brought up the definition (feminism is for everyone) and I read him the definition out loud. Keep in mind this was still respectful. I didn't make anyone mad, I did get laughed at though when I mentioned circumcision.... Might have been an "awkward laugh" though.

They brought up the pay gap. I brought up the equal pay act of 1963... They brought up that women are "still paid less" and I mentioned that it doesn't take into account hours worked etc. At this point I'm feeling pretty self-aware, some of the guys and girls are openly mocking me.. I didn't really care lol... So the teacher brings up an anecdote of a woman being paid less as a teacher than a new-hire man and said she sued (and won) for discrimination. I told him that the law was working then since, well she won the lawsuit... And the school was fucking dumb.

I then said his anecdote is no more valuable than mine, something he agreed with and class ended.

So after class I came up to him and told him that I hoped I felt I wasn't being rude. He said it was good I had a discussion with him.

cue me saying I love women, have a GF etc. Him saying that me feeling I should treat women equally was... feminism. I didn't have much fight left in me at that point and just said that I felt that feminism, being a gendered term has a huge roadblock to get over if it's truly fighting for equality.

Funny enough a feminist girl who I am ok friends with talked with me after class and said she agreed mostly, and that her ex boyfriend was an MRA. She then said I was mostly right but feminism "needs reclaimed from the misandrists."

I just told her that if the best feminism sends to the UN is emma watson, sarkesian and that one other girl (Wu?) then it needs new figureheads. I told her even she would be a better spokesperson because she recognized that men aren't these dominating forces of nature that never are venerable, that men can be raped, and sexually assaulted.

TLDR

Talked about feminism in English class. Class laughed at the idea of men's rights, teacher was chill and feminist girl was chill too.
