Woman is for circumcision because "men already enjoy sex more than women" and implies that an intact male will just "be even more aroused" Point: male sexuality is feared or at least looked down on.

Call me a pessimist, but if Trump and the majority of men in the House and Senate are themselves circumcised, then I don't see the petition getting much traction. Maybe if it got 400,000 signatures...

A pity, cause MGM is a very serious men's issue. Because of the plasticity of the human brain, things that happen to one at a younger age cast the larger, more enduring shadow on the individual's subconscious. Can you imagine the subconscious impact this agony has on the psyche of a newborn!

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I can imagine it because it almost drove me to suicide a few years ago.

The realization of what was lost is incredibly painful.

Trump's father was probably intact (born to German parents in the early 1900s), and Trump's mother was from Europe, so he very well may be intact.

Ivanka's on record having cut her sons, though.

[–]nugymmer 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It would be interesting to find out what their views on abortion are, if they thought that cutting their sons genitals and depriving them of bodily autonomy was a good idea.

This tactic works for me especially if the woman is a prochoicer. It forces them to think about the concept of bodily ownership from all angles.

[–]spchee 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Signed even though I'm not from the US, this needs to stop.

[–]GenericTerrorist 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Can someone explain to me what the controversy is about circumcision? I thought it was healthier. Not agreeing/disagreeing with anyone just wondering what's going on.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

its not healthier, and even if it was, if we removed girl's breast nubs at birth the rates of breast cancer would go way down... but we don't because cutting healthy parts off children on the offchance they get "dirty" later is unethical (for girls at least)

how is wanting to stop the cutting of children and infant boy's dicks a "stupid issue?"

And good for you, religious zealot. Valuing human rights less than those of an idea.

[–]Doobie_34959-14 points 8 years ago [recovered] (13 children) | Copy Link

My rights to practice my religion, and the religion of the child.

[–]mgm-survivor 16 points17 points18 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

You mean practicing your religion on your child. You and the other child sacrificing religions should petition to demand your continued right to kill and infect babies with STDs. It's your right.

[–]Doobie_34959-17 points 8 years ago [recovered] (7 children) | Copy Link

You're a bigger idiot than I can comprehend if you frame the circumcision debate as being inherently about the child instead of framing it as one of a fathers choice as to the degree with which he can influence his childs upbringing.

Going the way I would suggest would be a path to greater recognition of the MRM.

[–]mgm-survivor 14 points15 points16 points 8 years ago* (6 children) | Copy Link

I carved a swastika on my child's head, it's my right to influence his upbringing. This is your argument.

Are you cognizant enough to recognize the invalidity of this framing? Are you oblivious to your special pleading? Do you actually think your religion hasn't been used as a banner for evil or by some other reason think it deserves special treatment?

[–]Doobie_34959-2 points 8 years ago [recovered] (5 children) | Copy Link

Thats not my argument, thats your disingenuous argument.

Why don't you humor me a bit on this. If you had to choose a method to gain legitimacy for mens advocacy, would you pick the argument that would go to court, and lose on the constitutional grounds of freedom of religion, or would you instead choose to fight to make this an issue fathers would have exclusive jurisdiction?

If you go the first route, you will get people who have no animosity to you to fight against you. If it goes to a court, you won't win. If it goes to the court of public opinion, the best you could hope for is a small change in public perception. Religious people aren;t going to change for you. They would work to undermine you even though they have no ideological reason to be against the rest of the MRM. Look at how successful religious groups are at fighting against abortion. Do you want that model to be used against your interests?

If you instead advocate for an exclusive voice, you also wont win, but you would be extremely successful in changing public perception of the legal rights involved in fatherhood. Something like can be parlayed to greater fathers rights advocacy.

But the way you break it down, its like you would rather lose, and change nothing.

You can pracitce the religion all you want, until that involves the touching of an unconsenting baby's penis. Short of that, no one here wants to interfere in any way with your religious freedom. I promise you.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My rights to practice my religion, and the religion of the child.

The child doesn't have a religion yet. That's the problem. When the child is old enough to decide for themselves, then you can say it's their religion.

Because, at that point, it's only your religion.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Your rights end where your body does. We dont have any abraham reenactments where you sacrafice your kids (because it's murder) and we shouldn't have any genital cutting on infants cause their dad thinks he needs it to please the sky daddy. That's sexual assault of an infant

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The child is not old enough to decide if he wants to be part of your religion.

[–]shadowguyver 13 points14 points15 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

YOUR religion, not the child's. They have not agreed to follow that doctrine yet.

[–]bakedpotato486 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

Are you a Jew or Muslim? Maybe you're Christian? Either way, fuck yo' religion that advocates (or doesn't!) the mutilation of the flesh of baby boys that does not share your religion.

[–]ThirdTurnip 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not all Jews or Muslims support it either, even if their ruling religious bodies do.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

what if they grow up and stop being religious (like me) and still have a mark of "their" religion on their bodies forever?

I'm starting to think satanism is the most kind religion cause they don't have any blood rituals (ironically)

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

And my children would be born Jewish so they will share my religion.

Wrong.

I'm not a man but Brit milah was one reason I questioned and then left.

Banning circumcision isn't persecution. You could still follow the rest of Judaism. Jews like you overplaying the antisemitism card is why I--and others-- view claims with suspicion. Good job.

And do you want to cause people to hate jews? Because you're doing it perfectly.

[–]Doobie_349591 points 8 years ago [recovered] (10 children) | Copy Link

I'm paying the antisemitism card?

When did I do that?

And if you left over circumcision, Judaism was never important to you. There is no "following the rest" its a package deal, either you believe, and as a consequence, you practice, or you don't believe, and don't.

[–]nugymmer 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

No religion is important enough to cut into the genitals of any child for any reason.

I do have Jewish ancestry and of course still have great respect for the Jews. And so many are converting from Brit Milah to Brit Shalom, so you can't play the antisemitism card here either.

[–]Doobie_349592 points 8 years ago [recovered] (7 children) | Copy Link

Brit Shalom

No such thing.

[–]nugymmer 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Wrong!

There is such a thing. Go look it up if you don't believe me.

Also, the foreskin and frenulum are the most sensitive parts of the penis. Again, look it up if you don't believe me.

[–]Doobie_349591 points 8 years ago [recovered] (5 children) | Copy Link

There is no such thing as a Brit Shalom, I know what I'm talking about.

Also, the foreskin and frenulum are the most sensitive parts

That might be true, but thats not more important than my religion.

[–]nugymmer 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

Your own sexuality (a most basic human right) is less important than your religion?

And no, Brit Shalom is being conducted as a legitimate ceremony.

Jesus fucking christ, it's little wonder that the world is in such a mess.

I'm going to ask you a question. Are you pro-choice on the abortion issue? If you are, then I'll assume that you value bodily autonomy over religion, since abrahamic religions forbid abortion. Which brings us to this question? Why should genital integrity be treated any differently than any other human right? You own your own body, right? Well?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I said ONE reason. I had other reasons.

And Judaism not important to me and I don't believe any of it. For Brit milah and other reasons Judaism is barbaric. Did you even read my reply?

And, oh please. Even the strictest charedim don't follow everything, I guarantee it.

And claiming that a ban on Brit milah is persecution is the definition of overplaying the victim card. You would not be a victim just because mutilating children is illegal.

Seems like you have no faith in your god or religion. If you did, you'd trust that your son would follow the religion, even when you have no power to force him anymore, enough to let him choose at 18+. I sincerely doubt that jews have true 100% faith in their god, including you, because they're terrified of letting a boy choose as an adult whether to mutilate himself or not.

[–]VoxVirilis 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If that's how you think, its a shame the doctor didn't cut more off you so wouldn't be able to reproduce.

My sympathies for your future children you insist on mutilating.

[–]ThirdTurnip 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Religion certainly isn't for everyone but I think people should have the right to do and believe whatever they want, provided it doesn't interfere with others' right to do the same.

Mutilating an infant who cannot consent to the act is definitely outside those bounds though.

[–]ifihadasister 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Is FGM ok for religious reasons?

[–]nugymmer 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's been my counter-argument...but little girls are more precious and innocent than baby boys, so it tends to fall on deaf ears ...

[–]Oklawolf 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't care what you do or do not agree with. Your "tradition" was written in blood on my body, despite nobody in my family being in any way connected to your religion. That will never be okay with me.

I'm fighting this, and neither you nor anyone else will stop me from doing so.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Your religion doesn't invalidate human rights.

[+][deleted] -23 points-22 points-21 points 8 years ago (46 children) | Copy Link

I should not be giving this more traffic. But I would like to reaffirm my position.

I have been active against Misandry, Domestic Violence Against Men, and Presumption of Guilt since 1996. I myself have suffered enormous discrimination -- vitally important disability resources were not available for me since I am a man. I have Autism and Depression.

One issue on which I disagree with most MRAs is the attempt to ban religious practices of Islam and Judaism. I am Jewish. Islam has 1.7 Billion strong adherents. Islam and Judaism were banned during the Spanish Inquisition. Sadly some people want to restore the persecution.

[–]Gaesesagai 22 points23 points24 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Are you saying the systematic and barbaric mutilation of baby boys is ok simply because it's motivated by religion? Did I misunderstand you? Because if I didn't, and that's what you said, I'm sorry to inform you that that is profoundly inhuman.

If I'm right, this reminds me of something Sam Harris said, describing a conversation he had with a rather deranged woman about this exact thing. She was very worried about morals and implications in regards to human rights of prisoners (showing that she understood morality and decency), but she had no problem with his fictional scenario where every 3rd person in a society would have their eyes removed at birth because of religion. She said basically that if it's based on religious belief, then it "can't be wrong".

Any decent human being would recoil at that kind of monstrousity. And if you can't honestly find anything wrong with the barbaric mutilation of baby boys because it's mandated by religion... well. Lack of empathy and compassion are telling enough, no need for further comment.

PS: Now if I did misunderstand, ignore all I said, it's obviously no longer relevant in that case.

[–]ThirdTurnip 10 points11 points12 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Are you saying the systematic and barbaric mutilation of baby boys is ok simply because it's motivated by religion?

Yeah that's basically it.

And shame on anyone who won't just let them keep doing it!

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I now see why it was so hard to ban foodbinding in china. And that didn't even have a religious backing, just tradition.

Sick.

[–]bakedpotato486 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Starvation is wrong religion or not. (couldn't resist.)

[–]bigdammit 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's apparently ok to suck infants penis during circumcision if it's religiously motivated and a small number of boys die because of it.

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points16 points 8 years ago (33 children) | Copy Link

So what part of "your rights end where others start" is hard to get??

If you want to be circumcised what is wrong with waiting until you are 18 years old?

Also, my family wasn't Jewish or Muslim but my genitals are cut. Why is that?

[–]WildHuntsman -2 points-1 points0 points 8 years ago* (32 children) | Copy Link

There's a difference between volunteering to undergo a circumcision as an adult for no real medical reason and having it done to you as an unconsenting minor.

As for your own circumcision, it depends on where you are from. If you're from North America, for example, it's likely that you were circumcised at the behest of a doctor and or your parents due to misconceptions about health benefits and or tradition.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

There's a difference between volunteering to undergo a circumcision as an adult for no real medical reason and having it done to you as an I consenting minor.

Consenting minor?? Tell me how an infant (or young teenager) consents to circumcision?

As for your own circumcision, it depends on where you are from. If you're from North America, for example, it's likely that you were circumcised at the behest of a doctor and or your parents due to misconceptions about health benefits and or tradition.

so you know there is no reason for it... So why is it ok to do then? It's not healthier, its just removing part of a child's body... how is that right?

[–]WildHuntsman 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]nugymmer 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That both procedures should be unlawful unless there is a reasonable excuse - as in, a legitimate medical diagnosis of a condition which indicates that cutting of genital tissue is necessary to preserve the physical health of the patient.

Genital cutting should never ever be tolerated for any other reason.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Your young men can make thay choice for themselves when they are of age.

You cannot permanently harm them oh the babe of your religion (not theirs, add infants have none).

[–]shadowguyver 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How is forcing a religion on a child by irrevocably carving it into them when they themselves have not chosen any religion yet a good thing. It's negating their religious freedom on the premise they will ultimately choose the parents religion when they may not. Forcing it upon them is going against their personal rights as a person born to this world.

[–]puppypuppy78 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
