I want to be clear: Girls bear the brunt — both physically and psychologically — of sexual harassment, assault, and rape, but they’re not its exclusive targets. Middle- and high-school-aged boys report being the victims of dating violence, including physical abuse, at rates similar to girls.

I think it's this sentence that sums up how far we've still to go, sadly: Even someone who seems to understand, someone who in the second half of the sentence states that the rates are similar and spends the article pointing out the lack of support for male victims still feels compelled to say females have it worst and by a significant margin! I have to wonder what cognitive dissonance of that scale feels like.

[–]Fuckoff555 47 points48 points49 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly, the article says '' girls bear the brunt'' and then in the exact next sentence it says '' Middle- and high-school-aged boys report being the victims of dating violence, including physical abuse, at rates similar to girls.'' This shit is fucking stupid.

[–]Elvick 29 points30 points31 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And then people wonder why boys don't recognize when they've been assaulted? "Girls bear the brunt" of it, so boys aren't going to think what happens to them is abuse. Since that's something that girls experience, not boys.

And the cycle continues. sigh So annoying.

Who fucking cares who has it worse? It's not the Olympics. You don't get a prize for winning. It's entirely irrelevant.

[–]ThirdTurnip 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

.... still feels compelled to say females have it worst and by a significant margin!

It's the present day equivalent of "Heil Hitler!" Not saying it is a death sentence.

Offering commentary on any topic which touches on gender or anything feminists consider a gendered issue without a statement like this will see you instantly labelled as an alt right misogynist.

[–]Neko404 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Think it is more to deflect the “but women have it worse” that would surely arise.

[–]Elvick 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If you care about actual victims, you will not pit them against each other for who has it worse. And when people chime in about that you'll tell them to fuck off and get over themselves.

[–]Mencite 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yea I see your point but she may have had to make a caveat to get the article published. Its a big step to have this subject discussed in the first place.

[–]PeonSupreme 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I’m glad I’m not the only one who notices this ignorant shit.

[–]ThrowawayGhostGuy1 14 points15 points16 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I want to be clear: Girls bear the brunt — both physically and psychologically — of sexual harassment, assault, and rape, but they’re not its exclusive targets. Middle- and high-school-aged boys report being the victims of dating violence, including physical abuse, at rates similar to girls.

She contradicts herself.

[–]Lethn 10 points11 points12 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well it's just like with the wage gap bullshit, if they're debunking themselves in their own arguments it shows how daft their narrative is.

n a 2015 study, 43 percent of high-school and college boys said they’d been the victim of some form of sexual coercion — verbal, physical, substance-related — and 95 percent said the aggressors were girls.

Classic example, we get people even online generally who spew out these kind of statistics and they're trying to use it to justify ignoring males entirely and pretty much admit they're okay with resources being taken away from them.

[–]Arby01 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, I suspect the first part is the cost of not being thrown into the trash instead of published

[–]Kettellkorn 13 points14 points15 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Interesting, I’ve always thought that men who had been assaulted actually had it worse off psychology.

[–]2JMAN89 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Not according to society. We are stronger genetically, therefore any assault is really just us whining according to them

[–]Kettellkorn 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah. I could probably get to the point where I agree a female rape victim has to endure more physical trauma 9/10 times than a male victim, but the fact that you point out that men are supposed to be “stronger” is exactly why it takes more of a mental toll on us. Imo of course.

[–]Mencite 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes because society is in denial about women sexually assaulting men or you'd be belittled if you accused a woman of sexually assaulting you.

[–]Mencite 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Nowhere is the discrepancy between the rights of male and female more pronounced than in the case of sexual assault.
Any sexual assault of a woman is treated as all important it would be a life changing event for a man accused but if man is sexually assaulted by a woman its treated as the most trivial thing. He’d be belittled if he brought it up.

Society seems to believe girls are free to violate boys. Boys will feel as if there’s something wrong with them if they object. Most boys feel they have to like it or don’t feel as a male they can even be violated by a woman.

Its not surprising that there’s a lot of repressed anger in some boys given how society goes on about how welfare of kids is all important but totally dismisses the welfare of boys relative to girls in relation to sexual assault.

[–]shit-zen-giggles[S] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It has a lot more to do with our societies not having learned to see women as perpetrators capable of malevolence (The word is quite litterally "male" + "violence", even though that's maybe not how the word evolved linguistically).

I think this is THE critical next step of development that the emancipation of women and our societies have to take: Seeing women as fully capable of doing abhorently evil things. Getting rid of the whole "women are wonderful omnipotent damsels in distress who only ever fight just causes" scheme.

Here's an earlier post I made that I consider to be of high relevance to the topic:

https://www.reddit.com/r/MensRights/comments/7at0dn/michelle_elliot_discussing_her_book_the_female/

[–]ThirdTurnip 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

“Fuck you,” she responded. “Guys can’t get assaulted for real.”

We should make that into a bumper sticker.

[–]methylotroph 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Notice how few comments and the views: the readers don't care, they don't want to perceive of man as anything but abusers.

[–]thrway_1000 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Like The Cut or its writers gives a shit about boys or men.

Archive stupid sites -- https://archive.is/Wn1ev

[–]backthefuckupbitch 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

We need the MSM to start reporting this if we have a chance. This looks sharable on Facebook. I can't really share a Voice For Men etc without getting ostracized.

[–]majortom22 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A critical point that I never really see made. Yes.

[–]Mencite 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I believe its a big step to have these sex assaults on boys recognized. Other than this comment about girls bearing the brunt of sex assaults its an excellent article.

[–]Mencite -3 points-2 points-1 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well bozo its one of the first sites to write articles like this discussing that girls can sexually assault boys. What other articles discuss things like this.

[–]DirHR 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The 'girls/women have it worse' disclaimer must be included it seems.

[–]shit-zen-giggles[S] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Ideological deprogramming doesn't happen in one sitting.

Also: Rome wasn't built in a day.

Ask yourself: Could you imagine such an article being published a couple years ago?

[–]Mencite 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yea this is the best article I've read in a while. Doubt I've seen any man write an article as aware as that.

[–]ThrowawayGhostGuy1 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It took me a while, and I still don’t know how to feel about it.

[–]Lethn 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's mainly the double standard for me, feminists regard this kind of sex as rape when it happens to a woman and in the same breath claim that men want it in the exact same circumstances.

[–]dontpet 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

One confusing aspect for men experiencing sexual assault is that they will often be erect and ejaculate as part of the assault. It leaves almost all the men I've worked with with some confusion about their sexuality. It also leaves them feeling complicit even if they didn't want the sex and said so.

[–]shit-zen-giggles[S] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It would be amazing, if you could elaborate on this topic. Something like laying out the specific/significant/common differences between male and female victims you experienced. As well as techniques/approaches/concepts that you found to be particularly useful in working with men.

Doesn't have to be big/professional/the final word. Maybe you could put it into a dedicated post that could be pinned (paging: /u/theothermod).

sidenote:

I've heard similar things from people who work with sexually abused women. Women lubricate and orgasm during rape more often than you'd think and they are very conflicted about those particular experiences as well.

[–]dontpet 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm experienced but don't think of myself as having much clinical knowledge, and almost none of it is about women. Though I had heard that they in some cases lubricate and orgasm.

I sat beside a guy today and helped him write a one page summary of a one day men's survivors event. They collected feedback they want health professionals to have from male survivors in the day and my comments come partly from that meeting.

I just realised how unusual that experience would be on this forum when they post the info and the videos of the event I'll be sure to post it on this sub. Some incredible speakers from the developing world that opened my eyes to what is happening for men in lawless societies.

[–]shit-zen-giggles[S] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thank you very much for your reply! And also thank you for posting the materials (when they become available).

Much appreciated and much needed!

And yes, regarding your last sentence: just google "becha bazi" (if you haven't already). I've also seen one documentary (years back) about male who where raped during the civil war / genocide in the Congo and the fact that they will be ostracized esp. by women if they come forward.

Somewhat related to this topic:

FEMALE SEXUAL ABUSE OF CHILDREN

While there are reasons why feminists limit discussions on the subject of women abusers, these reasons are valid only to feminism.

-_- the other top post here today is making fun of women who don't know if they've been sexually assaulted.....

[–]ThrowawayGhostGuy1 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Women have had centuries of rape being clearly defined. Feminists have recently been blurring the definition so much that other women are now confused.

Men are just now realizing that they’ve been victimized in the first place.

[–]backthefuckupbitch 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

No it is pointing out that the definition of sexual assault has been made so fuzzy that women don't even know if they have been assaulted anymore.

If anyone has sex with someone who is too drunk to consent that is rape.

[–]w1g2 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

the definition of sexual assault has been made so fuzzy that women don't even know if they have been assaulted anymore.

More like if they consider it assault, or if a feminist tells them it was assault, then it was assault.

Like that random guy who simply mentioned she was pretty in passing? That was assault, apparently.

[–]ThrowawayGhostGuy1 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

What if the person was blacked out but didn’t present any obvious signs? I’ve dealt with people who acted as normal as a mildly drunk person would, and then the next day I found out they were blacked out.

[–]backthefuckupbitch 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

If they consent then they consent. Drunk consent is still consent. If I get inside a car and drive whilst blacked out I am still punished. Regret is not the same as rape anymore than it is an excuse for drink driving.

For your personal safety in the current social climate I would recommend not having sex with anyone at all drunk.

[–]ThrowawayGhostGuy1 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You said yourself, if someone is too drunk to consent then it is rape.

[–]backthefuckupbitch 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

You seem to have some reading comprehension issues. Is English your first language? If not try translate.google.com

EDIT OK I've checked your history and you don't look like a Troll. So I will try to clarify my position.

There are three possible states of drunkenness.

  1. No black out. Full function.
  2. Black out. Full function.
  3. Semi/unconscious.

Someone in state 1 or 2 is in my opinion capable of consent. They may well regret the sex in the morning. But they still consented.

Someone in state 3 is no longer capable of consent (or anything very much).

NB the law in your country may not agree with me. Hence for your personal safety I recommend not having sex with anyone that has been drinking.

[–]ThrowawayGhostGuy1 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree with this clarification but your initial post wasn’t specific enough. This is the grey area feminists take advantage of.
