Maybe it's my upbringing, but asking for free shit when you're famous, no matter how much, seems backwards.

I've always thought that if a company is going to sponsor you or give you something for free (with the hopes/stipulation that you promote their shit) then they should be the ones to approach you, not the other way around. If you need to ask for free shit because you're "famous", maybe you're not as "famous" as you think you are.

There are two distinct schools of thought on this event which both have some valid points, but here's the breakdown:

Yes, her initial proposal was polite. She offered what she felt was a valuable service in an exchange of services with the hotel. Exchange of services is not new or shady in any way, but both sides have to see value in the service they are receiving.
The hotel owner/manager did not see any value in her service and posted a hilarious and brilliant, but brutal, response which seems to have been completely anonymous with personal details removed.
The vlogger threw herself under the bus when she claimed ownership of the incident and responded publicly to the otherwise anonymous jab at her service.

In summary, she deserves whatever negative attention she is receiving because nobody would have known about the hotel's response if she had just let the issue go. The entire situation reminds me of these videos:

You wouldn't believe how these people hold restaurants hostage nowadays. It's even more critical for a new place to get positive feedback online because others can be influenced in such a manner that they never try it for themselves. The first 90 days of a restaurant is sink or swim. These people call ahead as if they were a well renowned food critic aiming to do good for the restaurant. Food critics obviously don't announce themselves because they want the real menu, to discover anything great, recognize any flaws and make recommendations on how to improve. VLOGGERS have a list of demands before arriving. Examples, they want the best time, the best table, everyone employed at the establishment to stop by and recognize them, be allowed to bring in 14 other people, ask to have the entire menu explained to them like they're 5, oh and they're pretty much allergic to 90% of the menu (gluten free in a fine dining Asian restaurant), and since they brought 14 people they'll gladly get up and speak to a manager and let them know why they shouldn't be paying since they brought in all these wonderful people on a Saturday night at 730 when the place is balls to the wall already. They'll threaten with their online influence and the manager will give way. And you never see them again. It's very Gypsy like.

She was civil and kind in her email (if any of you checked the post itself) and simply asked , in a professional manner if she could stay in exchange for attention. No "I deserve a free stay", just a simple business request.

So I love this subreddit but let's take a step back (and I am making some assumptions here)...

The "social media influencer" may not know the extent of the hotel's current social media reach when proposing this.

The individual seem to have a decent following as far as I can see.

Assuming its say €100/night for 4 nights they are offering what is essentially advertising directly to a large group of people who are likely to have similar interests to the individual.

It would not take a significant coversion rate at all for the hotel to recoup any lost revenue and in any case this ultimately could be netted off their marketing budget.

While asking for the accomodation to be free might have been a stretch, the hotel's response appears incredibly short sighted (considering they clearly put sway in the power of social media) as they could have perhaps offered to negotiate a reduced rate.

Don't get me wrong, i dislike the consumerist hysteria stirred up by this sort of social media but I can recognise it does have power whether I (or the hotel owner) like it or not. Companies give freebies out all the time to these types because they recognise the value. The hotel owner here sounds like an old school type who isn't prepared to embrace a new medium of promotion - fair enough but don't try and publicly shame the girl.

IDK, I think her initial request was respectful and he was a dick for making it a public spectacle. He could have just said "no, I don't see the upside for my company" or ignored her. He went in seeking to make drama out of a polite request. Nobody should be treated with hostility for making a polite suggestion or proposal.

Her response, however, contained outright provable falsehoods, which loses her some of my sympathy.

But again, I see no problem in making a request. They don't have to agree.
