I believe male victims of rape more than female victims. Is this bad, or is it an analysis of benefits?!

I think men have less MOTIVE to lie about it. I'm not saying a woman is MORE likely to lie about it, just that a woman would have more to gain from lying about it where a man would have NOTHING to gain.

Male rape victims are treated, well, pretty much exactly like how feminists CLAIM female victims are treated.

I agree with u/ThatNinaGal. Generally unless it's a public story, you have context to know whether or not to believe someone and if it's a public story it's really best to wait until their day in court and break the whole public reaction cycle. Also applying a general rule to an individual is always liable to rule someone in or out just because of the wider trend.

That being said I wouldn't be surprised that ON AVERAGE women falsify rape more than men.

I'm not sure you should believe OR disbelieve anybody's rape story unless you know them well enough to have a decent grasp on how honest of a person they are in general. What you are doing - expressing sympathy and telling them to report the crime - seems socially appropriate in all cases.

You should trust people on their word of honour but use facts and evidence to confirm their story.

You should always take accusations seriously, and then treat the accuser and the accused fairly.

Motivations aren't always obvious and people can be lying without there being a clear benefit.

You want to help people. You also want equality. You are at liberty to act however you want. You stated that you would treat them the same, and that's what equality's all about. You mentioned that you can't think of a reason why a man would lie about rape; I would be cautious with that line of thinking. People can take your good intentions and twist them to their own advantage. People lie about everything, it's been happening for some time. Just keep your wits about you, look at the evidence, and you'll be just fine.

I'm most likely to believe a man claiming to have been raped by a woman. Why, because I have yet to come across a provable instance where they lied with the intent to deceive. No non-disabled, non-incarcerated, adult male has ever been convicted of filing a false rape report against a woman to my knowledge and why would they? They're not likely to be believed or taken seriously unless they have significant proof other than his word alone.

I'm least likely to believe a woman claiming to have been raped by a man. Most proven false rape claims fits this category. Then men charging other men with rape and finally women charging other women with rape. Again based on the number of false rape claims of each category. I'm unsure where I would put people claiming to have been raped as children by adults.

I don't take sides.

Sex crimes in general mean very little to me. I've been molested and have been in situations which many would say i was raped.

I just think sex crimes in general are not as heinous as murder or armed robbery. Not even close. It's on par with forced manual labor. The current public eye makes it out to be the most vile malicious and cruel act imaginable.

It's really just a horny selfish prick. Only reason many think rape is serious is because the victim in many cases thinks they are going to die. As because of the penalty of rape many would kill the victim to cover up the rape.

Rape in my mind is sex with violence or threat of violence. In which a person has physical damage to the body. Not power or oppression. Not drunk sex or falling asleep or non verbal cues. Not sex you regret later.

I anticipate down votes and would rather dialogue on the matter rather than name calling and vitriol on this matter.

Statement against interest is a legal concept as an exception to hearsay, so no, it's not bad. A male has more to lose by claiming they are a victim of rape and less to gain, that's one of the reasons so few come forward.

It's common sense. There's zero motivation for men to lie about rape. For women there's all sorts of extremely pressing motivations. This leads obviously to there being a hell of a lot of women lying about rape and probably little to no men doing so. However having said that the people who lie about rape aren't necessarily all that right in the head so don't fall into the trap of thinking, "well a normal person wouldn't lie about this". Sadly for women at this point I think a normal woman would lie about rape some times. Depending on the incentive it could mean they get huge amounts of money, custody of their children, no or reduced prison sentence, all sorts.

But you know motivation is just one part of the evidence you might consider in assessing any event. In any specific case the specific evidence will outweigh these generic considerations to the point they may become irrelevant.

Also most people don't feel the need to really make a determination about such claims and so they assume the accuser is telling the truth because there's simply no reason not to if they aren't part of some sort of justice system or they don't know the accused. If there only participation is to give succor to a potential victim why not believe them? Of course the same logic says always believe anyone saying they are the victim of a false accusation too, if your only participation is to offer one person sympathy.

You are definitely on to something. Incentives steer people as a general, statistical rule. Perhaps you've read Freakonomics (and the following books, as well as the blog)?

But I don't think that men get laughed at or mocked, at least her where I live. The rejection, of the idea of a man getting raped, is more subtle. And even if it wasn't, men fear that they are not treated well by the people who are supposed to help, investigate and prosecute.

Dude. Do you think anybody wants people to go "oh, she's / he's the one who got raped" behind their back? It's never fun being a rape victim, not even a pretend one. People will judge you, "even" as a woman. You asked for it. You're a slut. Now you're ruined.

You're saying women accuse men of rape to get revenge or something, right? Without evidence, men never end up in jail. Them what's the revenge for? Shame them publicly? It's a really shitty idea because people do not always want to believe the rape victim, as you're saying yourself, because "what if she's doing it just to get revenge on him?". That's one reason to why most people don't lie about it, another one os because most people has some sort of common sense.

There has been several cases where women get raped, tell the police about it, but there's no evidence, so people think they're lying and start acting really, really shitty towards these women who have done nothing wrong. Who got raped. (in this case I'm thinking of there was a rape at a school in Sweden, nobody believed the girl, she was bullied a threatened a lot, had to move and get a fake name. Then this guy who she accused rapes two other girls, this time there's evidence. Yeah. Good move not believing in the first girl, assholes.)

So if you're not gonna believe the victim cuz "she could be lying" then just stay quiet. Okay?

Also, immasculating men for being raped is horrible. Rape should always be taken serious and I'll always be on the victim's side.
