I don’t post here often but statements like this annoy me. I’m not going to dismiss any woman’s fear of a stranger, but apparently as a male I don’t fear anyone? Sorry but my biggest fear on a date is being stabbed, drugged, or even accused of raping the girl I was dating. Granted I know these are unlikely to happen but that is my biggest fear on a date.

While on the subject: I am also cautious when I’m alone outside at night. I was in Philly for a con once and when I was going back to my hotel someone was following me so I stopped in a crowded area to lose them. But I guess since I’m a Man I didn’t have anything to worry about?

Just to show how stupid this way of thinking is

In marriage:

Women are afraid that the man won’t do household chores

Men are afraid of going broke and paying her alimony.

I still hate this way of thinking because it’s just promotions the “man vs woman” mindset that is tearing us apart and making everything worse.

Men are far more likely to be assaulted, beaten, robbed, and killed out on the street than women are. They're just as likely to be a victim of domestic abuse, with next to no resources available.

One more thing: perception doesn't always equal reality. Women may feel more afraid, but they're less likely to be victims overall.

The word "gaslighting" gets overused a lot, but I think it actually sort of applies to this situation. The reason they shove this crap down our throats non-stop is to make us feel guilty for the fact that we exist with XY chromosomes. After being constantly bombarded with quotes like this, I've actually caught myself believing it. "Maybe women really are constantly terrified. Maybe I'm completely oblivious to the fact that every woman I've ever known is terrified of me. Maybe I'm monumentally privileged in every way, and the fact that I'm not completely successful just proves how incompetent I am." No, bullshit. This cultural messaging has gotten so embedded in my brain that I actually feel guilty for not believing it, but it's objectively fucking FALSE.

It's a pretty dumb quote. Men are more likely to die. Men are expected to initiate therefore having experienced being laughed at or made fun out of at least a couple of times.

It's more like:

Men are afraid to have their life destroyed, women to have their emotions questioned.

This is a quote from a TV show that shows a severe situation of female oppression. In the context of the show, yes, all women are afraid of all men because the situation has gotten that depraved.

this is the kind of thing I read about The Handmaids Tale all too often, and it reveals that a lot of people are watching the show without actually following the story...they're getting a "victim fetish porn" fix, and not paying attention to the boring stuff.

In the show, EVERYONE is severely oppressed. Men are strung up and shot for minor violations of law, or simply after an accusation. The women used as breeding stock are shown systematically being abused and oppressed by OTHER women.

In the real world, this ongoing fantasy that women are terrified to go outside from fear of violence is extraordinarily disrespectful of the entire gender. It implies that all women are irrational, emotionally damaged creatures that live in fear scampering in the shadows lest they be seen...while simultaneously the Big Strong Men who are actually far more at risk of violence, stride like lords among peasants fearing nothing.

When I was younger...and not that much younger...you couldn't get feminists to shut up about how strong and independent women were, that they could do anything men can do, that nobody could stand in their way. Now all we hear is "every woman is a terrified victim" and it paints a pretty sad picture of the entire gender.
