Quick post: Heard 2 sneaky ideas that caught my attention this week. They typically fly under the radar but luckily I was able to catch them and correct my kids. If you notice these throughout the week, they are great teachable moments.

  1. "Only Need Love To Make A Family" was told to my daughter at school by one of her teachers. This teacher attends a local church but she's obviously repeating a phrase she heard from some progressive christian podcast or some such other nonsense. Paul is crystal clear that a Man takes a Woman to be his wife, the man is commanded to Love his wife and she is commanded to Respect her husband. Any other form of family outside a man and women who follow Jesus, is not biblical regardless of how much "love" there is between the two people. The gay community is working extra hard to slide their "only love matters" ideas into your head.
  2. Matthew West wrote a song called Truth Be Told playing on christian radio stations. In it are the lyrics, "There's a sign on the door, says, Come as you are, but I doubt it, 'Cause if we lived like that was true, every Sunday mornin' pew would be crowded'." Progressive christianity denominations like the Methodists (and many other) now allow lesbian pastors, transgender elders and openly support and encourage gay marriage. Divorce is so common in these churches that they dont even consider it a problem, just a sort of life-transition stage. Are these churches growing? Nope. The methodist church decided a few years ago that the path to growth and expansion was being more inclusive and yet they are struggling with declining attendance like every other denomination. Perhaps it's a little more complicated than Mr. West's lyrics imply. If you've watched The American Gospel, you know that most church-attendees cannot explain the gospel because modern churches rarely teach it. I would bet that a lack of clear gospel teaching is far more damaging to the Kingdom than accepting people's sinful lifestyles.

How many times a week are we bombarded by these very warm, fuzzy ideas? How many times a week do those ideas pass through your brain without any resistance? That's the power of media and culture. Eventually Biblical ideas are forgotten and replaced by progressive ideas. It doesn't happen overnight but rather from slow, consistent recurrence. It's our job as fathers and husbands to teach our families Biblical truths and guard them from warm, fuzzy lies.
