Edit to add description, per respondent suggestion: The overall gist is that we should just go ahead and acknowledge that while we definitely like and love individual men, men overall are still getting away with murder, metaphorically and often literally. See: the ongoing rate of male-on-female violence, the double standards that just won’t die, the boys clubs, the pay gap, the fact that we’re still expected to manage the entire domestic arrangement while they think they deserve a trophy for loading the dishwasher. And will cite the absence of praise as justification for not pulling their weight. Harmange says let’s quit tip-toeing around the truth for fear of seeming shrewish or misandrist, and just admit that we mistrust men as a group because you cannot know which ones will suddenly default to taking full advantage of the privileges that are always at the ready, for them.
