And here is MensLib's take on the issue

This is actually studied in feminist theory about one of the ways that patriarchy (the embedded ideas of male supremacy) hurts men. It goes all the way back to Punch & Judy, where the man is inept and incompetent and totally at the mercy of his competent (and violent) wife. It goes even further back to Chaucer's Canterbury Tales where the hapless husband is completely befuddled by his adulterous wife carrying on an affair right in front of his nose.

In all these cases it's "the exception proving the rule". We laugh at it because it is so outlandish and the opposite of what men are supposed to be: firmly in charge with no one able to challenge their absolute authority.

Yeah, treating men like crap is just treating women like crap and showing how men are the greatest gender...

[–]TehReedster8949 points 6 years ago* [recovered] (6 children) | Copy Link

MensLib frustrates me so much more than any hateful feminist subreddit ever could. The idea of a subreddit populated by a bunch of men who are that ashamed of being born men is just so pathetic.

[–]d_nijmegen 28 points29 points30 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Yeah it's really disappointing. I was banned for not being a good fit.

I complained about the lack of inclusive language in this debate.

Why is it "believe all women" in the first place? What's wrong with "investigate all claims"? No gendered victim and perpetrator and a focus on the truth

They didn't like me

Heres my ban story, its a good one -

There was this girl talking about how awful men are (and getting upvotes for it). A guy asked her how he can improve. He wasnt being sarcastic or anything, he clearly believed her. Instead of giving an honest answer, she freaked out and said "im not your therapist" bla bla bla.

I replied, saying that her reaction indicated that her original claim was wrong. If she cant even give any advice whatsoever on how men can "be better" in the specific way that she wanted, then her idea about how men are flawed (in that specific aspect) is probably wrong. I wasnt hateful or mean or anything, I just said that her inability to give advice was evidence that her rant about men being awful was incorrect.

Within like 10 minutes I was immediately permenantly banned.

[–]bufedad 6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

My ban story, the mods created a post for men to talk about being raped by women (in response to an AskReddit post of the same subject.

The catch was, you had to self censor on anything that might be considered generalizations of women before you were allowed (yes allowed) to tell your rape story.

I pushed back against rape victims being told how they were allowed to tell their stories... banned.

[–]d_nijmegen 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah very controlling. I've noticed most feminists can't stand explaining themselves.

[–]bufedad 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I mean, you're talking to rape victims, and your first concern is how it affects the people reading their stories? Not people, people implies anyone... just women.

[–]d_nijmegen 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

That's how it goes all right. I have a good one too. I told I didn't like the term toxic masculinity. It sounds like a negative on manhood. They told me I didn't get to decide what it means, It's how they mean it that's the authority.

A day later it's about equal right, equal fights.

They say it's about violence. I say it's about a level playing field without privilege.

Equal rights and lefts is the violent one.

They argued and I told them they could choose to be right yesterday or today. Can't be both.

Didn't like it

Mens lib isnt a mens rights sub. I've done this before so I wont cover it again, but of the top 10 posts of all time, 7/10 are either

  1. LGBT issues

Or

  1. Talking about certain mens issues as not real issues

[–]bufedad 8 points9 points10 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

No argument there.. it's just frustrating.

[–]KOMRADE_DIMITRI 11 points12 points13 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Its fascinating that one of their top posts is quite literally talking about how false rape accusations are not a real issue and are harmful to women, so it should not be used as a issue

[–]Macismyname 9 points10 points11 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Blows my mind that anyone siding with the villains of "To Kill a Mockingbird" can pretend they are supporting human rights.

[–]KOMRADE_DIMITRI 8 points9 points10 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

For real. These people seem to not realize that saying "false rape accusations are rare and not real issues" is like saying "getting raped by a random man off the street at night is rare, and not an issue" they both have the same statistical numbers

[–]RyansPutter 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I've commented on that sub exactly once. There was a post about working out and gender roles (or something like that), and I said that everyone, male and female, who is able to should work out.

A few minutes later some soy boy said that "muscle guys" like me are why he doesn't go to the gym anymore. I'm not a "muscle guy." I'm just a guy who likes to be in shape. And actually I've worked out with "muscle guy" friends and hated it because they think that lifting is limited to bench pressing and arm curls.

[–]bufedad 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I've worked out with muscle guys before, and found them to be some of the most friendly and supportive people you'll ever meet.

Literally concerned when your out for awhile. They will legit do wellness checks (and mental wellness checks) if they have your information and you miss a few days.

Some of the best people on the planet (I'm not in good shape....fyi...at about 220 5'11).

[–]Devidose 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

While a greentext, so take that with possibly more than just a pinch of salt, this went up about a year ago and there's probably some semblance of realism in encounters like this.

https://i.redd.it/qga8xuidpc831.jpg

[–]internet_underlord 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Anecdotally: I have always found that the "gym bros" or the "chads" as he says, are the one that are the nicest people there and are usually always up for a question or two.

Maybe its because it is their world there or their "spot" and they are just chilling while working out.

[–]RyansPutter 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Your "muscle guy" friends are better than mine, then. Mine are the kind of guys who scoff at me for doing rotator cuff exercises because "bench pressing works out the rotator cuffs" and they also don't know what "leg day" is.

[–]bufedad 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm not sure I've ever met a "muscle guy" who didn't know what leg day is.

Or one who would scoff at the idea of doing multiple exercises on a particular focused area.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

For fuck's suck. They may as well change the name of that sub to "Women most affected".

It's kind of like the galbrush problem.

If you show a zany, erratic, and stupid woman doing all the shit homer simpson gets up to, it has to be played positively, as though this makes her desirable. (Closest thing is the "Manic pixie girl" thing). It has to be framed as positive and life-affirming, something that awakens the husband spiritually to see her do and so on.

Because that she could just be a fuckup and a Moron who keeps causing herself and those around her problems is verboten, as our culture is extremely hostile to the idea that "Maybe this womans life is a mess because she keeps fucking things up for herself, but is too inept to realize it. So let's laugh at her for it.". That is the exact thing feminism rails against so frequently.

So when women behave like homer simpson does, it's written to never cause them any problems, it's always portrayed as positive and attractive and something men should value in women.

The Sarah Silverman show is the closest to this being challenged, but notably, she isn't married. She's an inept moron who causes problems for herself and those around her, but If the show added a husband to play the straight man to her, it'd be decried as sexist.

The fragility of feminists is such that the terminus point of a conversation can never be a negative observation about women. So when we talk about homer, it's "He did this thing, because he's a dumb dumb." That's the conversation, it's funny, we laugh. We can also have other conversations, but that's this one.

The feminist is fundamentally unable to handle this when the subject is a woman because of the feminists chronic psychological problems. An equivalent would be;

"Yes but WHY is female-homer a dumb dumb, it's someone elses fault! The school system failed her because mr burns doesn't pay his taxes and-"

And now suddenly it's not a comedy anymore and you're writing about a revolutionary class struggle drama about how mr burns not paying his taxes forced female-homer to stick his head in a bee hive and gave him all these terrible injuries. Doubtless until Lisa simpson becomes president and gives a dramatic speech about how she's going to crack down on tax fraud and end patriarchy. All the "Humor" will be insecure references to their own ideology, because they are in the end psychologically unable to derive humor from female-homer being a dumb dumb. They are unable to laugh at themselves. (Hence, "Women are not funny.").

There's a discussion to be had about whether if feminists are so fucking insecure that they insist only men be portrayed this way, whether men should match them in order to prevent our gender being portrayed negatively relative to women, or whether we should portray both men and women as "homer simpsons" on occasion, and then just laugh at feminists and point out they are psychologically broken human beings with fragile egos, who are chronically unable to take even a moment to have a show that laughs at a woman being a moron without immediately feeling the need to focus elsewhere, to blame some system for her failings. It's why all the media and narratives inspired by feminists has the same fundamental plot arc.

And it's not like we're opposed to stories about systems and so on. It's just that, you know, that's not the only kind of story.

Because dads irl won't complain

[–]Just_da_fax 10 points11 points12 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Because sitcoms are mostly watched and run by women. I used to watch some with the wife when I was a younger adult but yeah, it gets old. Every episode the males are just a bumbling, ignorant, lazy, forgetful, neanderthals. And even when they're not, they're still inferior to any woman(Big Bang Theory). I stopped watching them and just left the wife to watch them on her own, but then even she stopped when she started seeing how stupid the women were and the whole premise was.

[–]qemist 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Outside sports TV in general is mostly watched by women. Of course creators want to please this audience, which means making them feel superior to men. There's no political blowback for this so there is no reason to stop.

Contrast with the treatment of women in the TV men watch. They are never held up to ridicule, never made to look bumbling, ignorant, lazy, forgetful, neanderthals.

[–]perplexedm 7 points8 points9 points 6 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Empowering women by discriminating men. Isn't that the sole idea of feminism these days ?

[–]d_nijmegen 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Feels like it, and if you tell them they say it's not their problem, they advocate for women, not men. They litterally say this en tell us to get our own movement. While also asking us to see something say something.

So I told her that if men go only for their own interests. You get patriarchy because we're very good at the persuit of goals. Thats exactly what men did for centuries and we were completely on top and honestly the world back then was disgusting, so that's not what I would want. It's the entire thing they want us to stop doing so they have a chance.

And when they got their understanding and men did actually agreed women should be equal. They turn themselves against us.

Like they haven't learned from history at all.

You only get equality for both sexes at once. Or men will dominate because technically, what's stopping us, exept for our own good sense and empathy/love for the women in our lives?

I love my wife, that's why I treat her well. And I respect all women that respect me too.

[–]perplexedm 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Govt., every woman's first husband these days does not even allow men only spaces. Reminding boy scouts episode. Or even male locker rooms. Women only spaces are perfectly fine though.

Men's empathy and commitment towards women which is innately built into them because of their connection to mothers is being exploited. It will backfire and things will spiral badly in unnoticed forms unless rudderless women appeasement system which destruct families is not controlled.

Some of the issues like overdose deaths which is in a huge number, etc. happens for a reason.

[–]d_nijmegen 7 points8 points9 points 6 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

You already see it. Men in positions of power avoid females to mentor. Do not invite them to lunch and generally, feel like they need a safety net. It's already hurting them.

Amber heard is single-handedly destroying the credibility of accusers And a solid example of a toxic woman.

We're lucky lots of women don't buy into it. So we still have solid partners to marry and feel safe with.

[–]perplexedm 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

A huge number of them are creepily silent exploiters of that system. Later leading to situations like: https://archive.is/pKTwJ

Can't fully blame them, when given exploitable opportunities people will tend to exploit it.

Because ineptitude among men is funny.

More broadly, there are many more ways for men to be funny than women, for the simple reason that we see what happens to women as more serious. There are brilliant exceptions, such as Veep and Absolutely fabulous - but they nevertheless remain just that: exceptions.
