article had a lot to say. I agree with some but generally I didn't enjoy reading that. the language he uses just annoys me for some reason.

[–][deleted] 25 points26 points27 points 6 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

You aren't the only one; that was painful to read.

My journalism teacher in college must be tearing her hair out over today's "standards".

[–]fourthwallcrisis 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I did media studies in college. It was then I decided that I didn't want to work around a bunch of, what I fondly call "a cabal of soulless, lying cunts".

[–]McFeely_Smackup 18 points19 points20 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

journalism died July 15, 1996, or at least took it's fatal wound.

actual journalism standards no longer exist. hell, actual editors no longer exist. why hire trained professionals when you can automate publishing articles from AP news feeds, and pay bloggers pennies to write about nonsense.

I went to one of the largest journalism schools in the USA, I was in engineering, but took several journalism electives including "Ethics in Journalism". Literally every day I see everything I learned in that class just shredded and shit on in the mass media. I honestly don't know what journalism schools even teach these days...is every class just "Well, back in the old days..."

[–]Hedhunta 11 points12 points13 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

There's this really awesome documentary about Journalism in America. Its called Anchorman 2.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Anchorman is about as much a documentary as CNN and its ilk are Journalism.

[–]VoxVirilis 9 points10 points11 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

July 15, 1996

The date MSNBC was launched?

[–]Foundthisinthetoilet 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You mean “quote-unquote standards”, surely?

[–]Lethn 58 points59 points60 points 6 years ago (20 children) | Copy Link

The writer is a hand wringing left wing pseudo-intellectual desperately trying to understand how Joe Rogan gets so popular when he lets the likes of gasp Alex Jones onto his show when the writer fails to realise that Joe Rogan is so popular precisely because he doesn't black list or ban potential interviewees because of stupid shit they've said.

His invitation to Jones was indefensible, and his defense was even worse. I had assumed going in that Rogan would explain himself at the top, similar to what he’d done after booting the Jack Dorsey interview. But he didn’t.

My Joe Rogan experience ended because he wore me out. He never shuts up. He talks and talks and talks. He doesn’t seem to grasp that not every thought inside his brain needs to be said out loud.

He's a podcaster and a commentator you fucking moron, the whole article just kind of screams jealousy, it's like the media when they talk about youtubers or when games journalists try to bash steam for the games they put on there. It's nothing to do with what he said or did they just fucking hate these platforms are all more popular than they are.

He runs a TALK SHOW. Of course he's going to talk on his TALK SHOW.

[–]McFeely_Smackup 17 points18 points19 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I've been hunting a long time for a podcast where the host didn't just talk endlessly, and thought I'd found the perfect one...but turns out my battery had just died.

[–]Jex117 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Star Talk with Neil Tyson is a good one.

[–]apeironman 11 points12 points13 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ikr?! What's this guy's favorite podcast, "Two Hours of Silence"?

[–]user946011 points 6 years ago* [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

It's the embodiment of an effeminate man trying to mimic regular guys by adopting the trappings if masculinity. He literally buys virtually every product on advertised or discussed in the show because he thinks that's what all the listeners and 'normal' dudes are doing. If anything tells you the writer just doesn't get it, that's it.

Plus, the whole ent about joe making a great point but it didnt mean anything because 'the right words out of the wrong mouth are squat.'

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

someone needs to tell him this. the guy is insufferable

[–]bakedpotato486 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The author of this article doesn't seem to grasp that not every thought inside his brain needs to be published.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

I don't think he has ever had anyone from the alt-right on, so not entirely true. I wish he would have on Jared Taylor.

[–]his_purple_majesty 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Gavin McInnes?

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Alt-right to me is supporting white identity and homelands. Gavin doesn't.

[+]Solid_Rice -6 points-5 points-4 points 6 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Jared Taylor

So he should have on White supremacists? Really?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

The dude that grew up in japan and loves other cultures is a white supremacist (he actually says japan has a better culture than whites)?

[+]Solid_Rice -7 points-6 points-5 points 6 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

...yeah, he is.

Get the fuck outta here with that race realism bullshit.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

How? Just because he wants whites to have a homeland like every other race? Lmao. That isn't supremacy you moron.

[+]Solid_Rice -6 points-5 points-4 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

LOL wants a white homeland but he's not racist folks!

Seriously, go fuck yourself you racist cunt

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

How is the possibly racism? Is mexico racist? Congo? Korea?

[–]Solid_Rice -4 points-3 points-2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

.......what the fuck...lol

Did you leave off the /s?

You cant be that stupid

[–]jameswalker43 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

certain behaviors can be not easy to grasp but please remember when you don’t know what to do - do good.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The writer is jealous that men in America want to hear what Joe Rogan has to say instead of what he has to.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Agreed. These people use many words to say very little. Joe is popular because he understands men, doesn’t BS his audience, works hard and is good at what he does.

[–][deleted] 35 points36 points37 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

All cool but has the person who wrote this ever tried DMT?

[–]ShooterMcgavin41 15 points16 points17 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

“Pull that up Jamie”

[–]OldSoulActual 24 points25 points26 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

He openly speaks out against Men's Rights, check out his special Strange Times. There's a segment in there basically saying anyone who believes in Men's Rights needs to shut the fuck up. I can still enjoy the man's comedy and not agree with what he's saying.

[–]Northmaster 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah I watched this recently. He claims men “have all the rights” I like joe and watch him regularly but no we don’t.

[–]Futureboy314 -2 points-1 points0 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Huh. Did not know that. Good on you, Joe Rogan.

[–]SilkySullivan 12 points13 points14 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The writer uses too much absolutism. He even hints on it about forgiveness for murderers, then condemns people based on one thing they’ve said. But goes on to condemn Joe for not being absolutist with his interviews.

And white knights that there isn’t enough women on his podcasts. No wonder this guy couldn’t figure out why he is popular.

[–]GeekofFury 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

And white knights that there isn’t enough women on his podcasts.

I like Joe because he has on interesting people (usually experts) to talk about interesting things. If that means more women are on, great. If not, well, that's fine too. It's hilarious to me that I'm considered a bigot because I don't find that "diversity" in and of itself is this top tier indicator of quality in a thing.

[–]SilkySullivan 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I really enjoyed the one with the ultramarathon runner. But for him to criticize not having enough women is lazy.

[–]istira_balegina 14 points15 points16 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This writer is insufferable. I wonder how many friends he has.

[–]mgtowolf 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't wonder at all :P

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link

Joe touches on subject well but I would say he doesn't understand Men devasted from Divorce for no fault of his nor doesn't highlights hypocrisy of Feminist agendas like fake MeToo and Fake RAPE allegations

[–]Bratosch 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

wait what the fuck? only read the title of the article but Jesus Christ...that's like ordering a steak and then suing the restaurant for giving you, a vegetarian, meat.

[–]Jex117 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So giving her the lap dance she paid for is sexual assault....

....but grabbing his genitals wasn't? WTF

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Jesus

[–]xDreeganx 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Some things have to be experienced to be truly understood. Like going to space.

[–]KOMRADE_DIMITRI 14 points15 points16 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Bill Burr gets men the best IMO. Joe Rogan is great too though, just too much marijuana/DMT talk.

[–]7_legged_spider 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Bill Burr is a bit of a pussy.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Bachelor Bill Burr, I'd disagree.

But you have a point with Post-Marraige Bill Burr.

[–]whiskeykm37 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Meh, he has his moments. Can’t say I really listen/watch a lot of his stuff. But, if he at least brings up issues men commonly face out in the open, I can be down with that. With damn near everything out there creating a gynocentric playground, it’s nice to know there is some outlet that still realizes men exist and aren’t all “toxic threats”.

[–]GeorgeOlduvai 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Archive so as to not give the Atlantic anymore clicks than absolutely necessary

[–]snoozeflu 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't think he understands men better than most people at all. He has (I think) 3 daughters and a wife at home. His support of mens rights will only go as far as they allow him to go.

[–]Sewblon 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

These are both good, if imperfect, points to raise, but neither of them seems to grasp that a good point coming out of the wrong mouth doesn’t count for squat.

I don't agree at all. What is said is always more important than who says it. Also, Joe Rogan is not MRA at all. " He knows that he is privileged by virtue of his gender and his skin color, but in his heart he is sick of being reminded about it." When it comes to men and their place in the world, he is a luke-warm centrist.

[–]Foundthisinthetoilet 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The last paragraph is pretty enlightening:

It might unsettle some of us that we must rely on his fans to separate the good stuff from the bad, but that’s the hard work of being a responsible adult in the modern era—knowing what you should consume and what you shouldn’t.

There just seems to be an anti-liberal, authoritarian instinct the guy is fighting against. It’s like he can’t trust people to come up with the same “correct” opinions that he has formed and this is causing discomfort because PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT STUFF THAT COULD BE WRONG AND OMG THEY CANNOT BE TRUSTED!!!!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Its a long advert for joe rogan products.

[–]Doobie_2325555 -2 points-1 points0 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Joe Rogan is a product and his popularity on youtube is paid for. He isn't going to pop up to the top of the algorithm if you use anonymity services.

[–]dirtydart 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Lol yeah ok..
