My stbxh is hoping I'll buy him out of the house, pay him alimony, and pay child support. I'm so scared I'm going to be broke with what housing costs. I make 120k, he makes 75k. He has more education but has chosen to take lower wage jobs & even didn't work for over a year because he was going through depression. I worked 2 jobs to help put him through grad school. I will likely be the primary caregiver since he travels for work a lot and I already do the majority of tending to our 3-year-old. I also pay for my child's health insurance & daycare.
Any stories people can share? Did you end up paying alimony to your spouse, particularly if you are the primary caregiver?

Image if a man earning twice as much wanted to keep the home and not pay any support posted there. You would get creamed in the comments.

If there wasn’t any kids involve. It’s his right to keep what belong to him. But if there are kids (she gave birth to them , not adoption), men should pay. Women have to sacrify their career and jobs to have his kids. She put her life on pause for the family (especially if she was a SAHM stay at home mothers for a long period of times) Unless men prove that they were stay at home father just as much time as the wife. So it would be FAIR on both side. This is why I don’t understand men who want to promote women to be stay at home mothers but will wwhine if the marriage break, they will have to pay her a huge sums of money to get her career back.

Yeesh what a soy boy you are. My ex didn't sacrifice shit to be a mom. Non of them do. They want to be house wives and do nothing all day. She'll be paying me child support soon and that's justice.

Buying him out of the house: he deserves 50% of marital assets. So refinance the house and give him his half, or something else of equal value.
Paying him alimony: depending on the laws where you live and the length of your marriage, yes you might have to pay. You make 120k, he makes 75k. If he gets a higher salary down the road you might be able to get it adjusted.
Child support: as the higher earner you should pay C/S (assuming 50/50 placement). Don't try to deny him his 50% just to lower your C/S burden, that would be evil. If he ends up getting a higher paying job the C/S can be adjusted. The fact that you pay for the child's health insurance should be taken into account with the C/S calculation.
Divorce sucks. It's expensive. It costs more to run 2 households than 1. And it especially sucks for the higher earner to see your money going to your ex. I get it. But neither you nor your STBXH should expect the same standard of living post-divorce. And don't expect sympathy from this crowd just because you're a woman. Boo hoo. Guys (usually but not always the higher earner) face this situation All. The. Time.

Unfortunately it is a REALLY bad time to try to buy someone out of a house.. due to interest rates it's going to cost a lot more per month to refi. That is one benefit I think I have with my STBXW.. the house is in her name.. its a martial asset in my 50/50 state.. so she still has to buy me out.. but she wont need to refi.. and when we refied with her name (due to her credit being better) it was at a 2.3% interest rate.. so though the monthly is still high given the value of the loan.. its affordable enough if she works full time to pay for it herself.

I would leave US or Europe. Sell everything. Convert to cash and send to China. Then get a work visa there at top tier city. You probably make as much. And top cities in China much more developed than US. Then say bye bye to the ex wife

First.. more developed than US? Right.. second.. even if they were.. it's mostly from stealing US tech and then putting child labor to work to duplicate it. Third.. why would anyone want to live under a dictatorship govt? Any govt that is anything close to china, russia and NK.. is awful to live under. So many repressions.. little to no freedoms, can be shot/killed on the spot for just about anything by police/govt.. no thank you.

Yea it is. Have you been? Probably not. But thanks for your insightful and knowledgable comment anyway.
Now have fun with hmm splitting your assets

i expect to win the financial part of the divorce
stbxw has a skyrocketing career climbing the corporate ladder while i lost 'the best bad job i've ever had' in november (due to no fault of my own)
i anticipate receiving spousal support
i'd rather work things out.
i know we are not as far apart as she thinks we are
but she has decided...probably years ago
