Interesting to see that the number of people 50+ getting divorced is 3x what it was 15 years ago, and almost 25% of the US population 40 year olds aren't married.

I resonate a little bit with one thing said in the article.. the elderly (e.g. 65+) that are single/divorced and having a rough go of life financially. Especially now more than ever. In my 50s and I am already worried about how in the past 4 years I've seen a 10% pay raise in total, and my costs have gone WAY up.. well over 10% of what it was 4 years ago. Across the country, even in LCoL areas like florida, midwest, etc.. prices have gone way above what pay raises/etc have.

My own parents are living on social security only.. together they take home about 3K a month. Their rent is 1800 alone for 1bedroom and this is in a LCoL area. That 1800 is now almost the high end of LCoL rent for a 1bedroom is just insane to me.

Doesn't mean staying married for the extra money is worth it.. just scary to think that in more locations than ever, social security alone wont be nearly enough to live on. I hope the younger folks reading this pay attention and realize they absolutely need to start saving for retirement very early and dont touch it for anything.. not even ransom money :D.
