It started with ASDA but they've slowly been expanding to other retailers.

I work in distribution, local for the time being. Well, I'll be working again pretty soon hopefully when my back will be healed, with the doc approval. And yes it's work related. Ladies, feel free to join anytime. Pay is not bad. We work monday to saturday, 1am until the deliveries are completed, generally between 10/11 am. Oh! Almost forgot. Hope you don't have problem with heavy lifting and hot warehouses. You also need a class A. And forklift certification.

Maybe cause those are not the same jobs. Same work, same pay.

I do think some people are underpaid and some are overpaid. No question about it, but this is not a gender issue like they try to present it. If anything, it is a class issue.

Seems wild to me that these people dont understand that harder and more physically demanding jobs pay more, gender has nothing to do with it the workload is just way more strenuous so the employees are compensated, its why commercial fishermen in places like alaska make so much money, because they work so damn hard they get paid a lot of money to reflect that effort otherwise no one would do the job. They arent getting paid more because their men, their getting paid more because they work harder in the back than the people in the front. How is this so hard for people to understand?? a female warehouse employee would get paid the same as a male warehouse employee how do these people not get this. Hell she acknowledges it, and i quote: "that there are other valid reasons for paying the two groups differently. As a spokesperson for the company puts it, “retail and distribution are very different sectors, with their own distinct skill sets and rates of pay”. but then she ignores that completely and just brushed the perfectly logical and valid reason for why back of house employees and paid more just so she can bang on about sexism. Insane

Also, when I worked retail ages ago, they pressured unattractive men to go in back to the stock room. Even if you were good at sales they wanted cute girls on the floor. Too bad for me. It took years for me to look good enough to be treated kindly by women.

If this works there will be a lot of people who quit wearhouse work to do retail work.

Then there will be no one doing the wearhouse and it will drive the wage up again, the same reason wearhouse staff are paid more now.

It will take years but this idiotic idea will backfire again.

This is the type of pay equity that Jordan Peterson has been asked about with regards to Iceland.

It is a bureaucrats wet dream. Through a gendered lens each job will be ranked by various factors to close the “gender pay gap” which makes this a complete non starter. Factors that give men the edge are not accepted but on the other hand additional education is even though it has no impact on the jobs and tasks in question.

These people want to take us from a society of abundance to one of scarcity but one overflowing with commissars.

I don’t see how this is a gendered issue.

This is more to do with the question of whether retail staff are comparatively paid enough for the work they do than it has to do with pay of men versus women.

Most retail jobs are paid fuck all and to describe them as being justified in doing that would be wrong in my opinion. They often bear the brunt of customer attitude and appeasement, and the judgement of management etc and lack a good deal of freedom in their working conditions compared to some “back of house” roles. What’s wrong with them being paid more?
