I want to put together a list of things we can do to better secure ourselves financially in case of divorce before we get married. Here my list.

  1. Get a prenup. No prenup. No marriage.
  2. Keep all the pre-marital assets in separate bank accounts and never ever mix them with the marital assets under any circumstances.
  3. During the marriage, keep a joint account where both are contributing. These are your expenses as a couple. But keep your own income in separate accounts that's on your own name.
  4. If possible, file tax returns separately.
  5. If possible, don't buy house for the first 5 years.
  6. Some people mentioned idea of putting pre-marital assets in trust. I don't know how does that work. Can someone please explain?
  7. What else?

I'd love to hear from you all on what I'm missing and what doesn't sound right from this list.

Note: This list may come across extreme. But we may rather plan to extreme cases and be more open than other way around.
