Hi there,

I just wanted to share a quick reflexion I made myself, upon the subject of the Male Power Fantasy.

Everytime I see it used in any kind of discourse there is a regressive, almost child-like intention given to it. Like "men want to have big muscle, to be the strongest ape".

Another, more destructive kind of discourse is the one articulated around the idea that the power fantasy really is a fantasy of power. As in "having power over someone". Like men daydream about oppressing someone.

And, there is sort of the notion of "men want to be the strongest ape" (I'm almost 100% sure the other one is just misandrist delusion at its finest). But I think something that's not discussed is the "why?" of the power fantasy. Why a lot of men imagine themselves surviving a zombie apocalypse, or defending someone being assaulted, whatever.

So I decided to observe when and how my own power fantasy arise. And systematically, it's whenever some part of me is attracted to a woman, and I would like for her to notice me. The whole idea around the power fantasy is to feel worthy of interest and attention. And it started pretty early. As soon as 8 y.o I was convinced I needed to save the world to be worthy of a girl I liked.

And I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one like that. That's why the model sold my masculinist has so much traction with young men who don't feel in control of their lives. It sells them the idea that they can win the power to be worthy (hence the very common, and imho pretty true point, that men areborn without any inherent worth).

And where I feel like feminism is disingenuous, is that the whole male power fantasy, in the end, is only a mating strategy. It's the brain pushing men to set strength related goals to strive for, as a mean to maximize your mating potential. It's a process entirely centered toward women.

Kinda like women drooling over cute dresses and spending tons of money in makeup and other things to appear more attractive. Yet, nobody calls it the "female beauty fantasy" and say it's a way for women to live their oppressivefantasies toward men...

I just wanted to know what your thoughts on that idea were?
