Why didn’t you ask him to explain his redpill beliefs to you? Ask him what a relationship means to him, what real love looks like to him, and if he believe relationships have specific gender roles he expects to be fulfilled. Also, is he religious? Lots of religious, conservative folks get drawn in by the traditional gender role aspects of redpill, but then that can easily turn into an extreme the more and more he listens to those dudes. He could just like the Jordan peterson “clean your room/be responsible” bit, or it could be that he expects a provider/server type dynamic in his relationship, or it could be that he’s insecure about who he is and his masculinity so he’s trying to find some weird online answers, or he could be a full on redpill asshole who sees women as a tool for his own ego and traits his partner disrespectfully.

We can’t give you the answers you seek, you gotta talk to him, and see if y’all value the same things in a relationship or not.

One last question: do you normally not feel comfortable talking to him and having deeper discussions about topics relating to your relationship? Does he tend to shut you down and ignore what you say? Or does he try to understand your perspective and work on a middle ground yall are both happy with?

Ask him if he believes that women are incapable of love, and if he believes that you'll leave him if he doesn't perfectly perform dominance, masculinity, and/or traditional western male attractiveness, because all of those are tenets of Red Pill philosophy. Also ask him if he thinks you are emotionally a child who needs to be managed.

As another left-leaning feminist, I would be incredibly concerned. When you ask him about what he believes, you’ll need to decide whether those are beliefs that you can live with for the rest of your life.

Will you end up feeling stifled, ignored, downtrodden, used, or disrespected? Or are you ok with your spouse holding wildly different values from your own?

Not really but it depends what content of his your bf likes. If your bf is a fan of JP's unhinged Twitter and the humiliation porn that some fans make of his debates, then could be concerning. If he primarily likes his books and lectures, you should be fine.

JP usually does his own thing. He was a professor of mine back in undergrad while he was still teaching. And it's always been his thing to explore some unusual ideas and taboo perspectives. He was obsessed (for a while) with the question of people's capacity for evil after he extensively studied dictatorships and genocide. So during social psych class, he'd get undergrad students to contend with the fact that the odds are, if they were in Nazi Germany, they'd be Nazis. It's an unusual approach but I liked the class.

JP did go through a major health scare a few years back and I find he's changed over the years. And since joining the Daily Wire he's become more rigid in his thinking and I've since stopped listening to his podcasts. I think he's extremely bitter and angry from being basically kicked out of the university over the pronouns question, and now he's at risk losing his clinical license. He's definitely more disillusioned now and less of that nerdy, small timid prof that he was when I knew him back in 2012. Gosh when I knew him he was intellectually arrogant as almost all professors are, but he was a very gentle man.

Most recently, JP came out completely bashing Andrew Tate and saying that pimps or men who exploit and profit off of women are some of the lowest scummy people on the planet. So JP doesn't really fit RP thinking. He is overtly a hater of Andrew Tate. But some of his clips and ideas are selectively highlighted by RP creators.

As mentioned, he explores some taboo ideas and always had throughout his career. So when he thinks through controversial topics he does so in lectures or interviews, and he definitely has some takes that I find stupid. He's not black and white, but I personally don't see his content as being RP.

You should talk to your bf. Because if your bf likes JP in the way I have since I was a student of his (liking his lectures on spirituality, his books etc.), then you're safe.

Kinda. I have heard him referred to as "purple pill" by the "red pill" community.

I (a 40 yr old woman) fell into the vortex some how a couple years ago. It just intrigued me in the beginning then terrified me, depending on who it was.

I feel like Jordan is a safer, less toxic version than others. He isn't against marriage or children so he isn't as bad as the MGTOW (men go your own way) movement. He is pro traditional values. So he is a little "this is a woman's role, this is a mans".

He is a gateway drug to TRP; many RPers have found their way into the ideology through Jordan Peterson. He takes old sexist, socially conservative ideas and uses his credentials and a bunch of "big words" to give them an air of legitimacy. To be honest he is allot like the post-modernists he hates.

He conducts himself like this sometimes:

JP: I think feminists don't criticize Islam because they crave masculine dominance.

Interviewer: Why do you believe that?

JP: Its because of archetypal, transestential, heterobopitive pebis benis....

Even when you can define the terms he uses, the actual meaning of what he's saying is elusive. People just assume that, because of his credentials, what he's saying must be right. It has this effect on ultraconservatives and redpillers (strongly overlapping Venn diagrams) of "you see, someone super duper smart agrees with my old school opinions!" He helps people on the right validate their biases.

Not specifically but he is definitely also a right wing loser with similar beliefs (lots of sexism, etc.) and if your boyfriend agrees with him he is probably pretty right wing too.

Views are a spectrum, including red pill views.

So if I were to say I’m a conservative, you would make assumptions on what I believe. But those assumptions are based on where you are on that spectrum, and are unlikely to be reflective of my actual beliefs. If I were to than say I’m a British conservative, that might change what you think my beliefs are, if I were to say I’m an atheist that would further change what you think my beliefs are.

You saying that you’re left leaning and a feminist can mean anything. To a socialist you’re a right winger, and to a right winger you’re a socialist.

So you need more information. What does your partner actually believe?

Jordan Peterson is an academic, he talks about lots of things. His main thing is about taking on responsibility for yourself and for others.

He may have ideas people disagree with but he is clearly not a living caricature like fresh and fit and others. He is kind of on his own I think he is quite balanced even though some others may not like him

Also in terms of intelligence he is not comparable to them

He’s red pill adjacent, many red pillars today discover him first. And that is the gateway to the more extreme guys. While I do think he has some decent views and advice I do think most of it is the same old mansophere garbage. And I don’t care for him.
